(there was a url link here which no longer exists) is a link to my image of the ledges staircase, Dorothy.

Missed that post about sunrise at the falls, John. I've been to the Blue Hen Falls and made an (there was a url link here which no longer exists) I'm really happy with... there were just to many people at the Brandywine falls for me to work at the time I was there. I'll have to pick you're brain a little more about it on Saturday. All the best. Shawn

Moving to Cleveland? The Steeler Fan in me would never abide it! =)

Years ago, having taken much abuse at national sales meetings about the Indians and the Browns, I told them I had taken up gardening and sailing and the could go.... themselves.

I wish I could figure a way to get the 7x17 up there without having to carry it.
John

How much does it weigh?

Oh, and I have a hunch I'm not going to make it before 9 on Sat morn. I wish I could, but I'll be there for morning coffee for sure!

The camera is not bad at 12#, but the film holders and lenses gather weight pretty fast. Camera, tripod and head is 43#. Add 3# for a lens and a 4 or 5# film holder and you are set to go. Were you thinking of carrying?

The wolves are going to be disappointed Friday night Dorothy, but I am sure they will be happy to see you Saturday.

Coffee at 9 AM.

I remember in my younger days when we went backpacking and my pack was about 50#. Guess I got old or somethin'. I'd love to but I don't want the responsibility of being food for the wolves if I fall with your baby on my back!

In my younger days the Cub Scouts were going camping. I said Daddy, Daddy the cub scouts need a chaperone. Daddy said Johnny I'll take you any place there is room service. I was 26 before I went camping with the US Army Combat Engineers. If we wanted a latrine we either blew a hole in the ground or called in a dozer.

I need one of these John Deere all wheel drive toys, but they don't want those in the park.

If there is anyone else besides Lee considering an early morning ledges shoot on Saturday before coffee...

My aim is to be there around 6 to 6:15am. There's a couple problems with meeting me at a specific time. The first being, I don't use cell phones =), the second is that I'm driving in from 1:15 minutes or so away.

The third is the main ledges parking lot has been closed when I get there early about half the time. There is a way into the ledges from the north, at the visitors center off 303. I'm probably going to go there as the lot is accessible and I won't have to worry about it being closed when I arrive. It's a slightly longer walk but worth the price since it's open. I will be working in the ledges between the big stone stair case and the cave/bridge area so I should be easy to find. I drive a light tan Ford Escort if you're looking for the car. I plan on shooting from around 6 until 8:45 or so when I will leave for John's.

Thank you. I sent an email to Penny on the enlarger. I don't know if she is in town or where she can get email. She is scheduled to teach a class later this summer. John

Jeff,

I just got an email from Penny. Akron U would like the enlarger/donation. Please bring it and any pieces parts. I will then deliver it to school during the week when she and the guy who maintains the 34 enlargers are there. Thanks very much.

No problem - glad to have it get some use. I'll see if we have any other goodies hanging around as well.

Anyone interested in a Ries A100 tripod and Pan head? These are from, I'm guessing the late 1950s or early 60s. I got a new one a few months ago and haven't bothered to put this on on ebay yet. I paid $450 which was probably too much. I'd be willing to get rid of it to anyone at the event for $325. Let me know, if there is no interest I'd rather not drag it along. Shawn

As of this afternoon, I'm planning on driving over to meet Shawn near dawn (Shawn of the Dead?) at the ledges Sat morning. Then probably overnight Sat in the "lower 40" in the van.

I'll have Dorothy's compass (apparently we're not in Kansas anymore), and be ready to work out the chem exchange with Shawn and Jeff.

PM me if I've forgotten other obligations. It's been a long winter and spring here at the ranch.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Lee

You all may have seen the tripod under my 7x17 at earlier events. I think that is the same model as what Shawn is offering. It is rock solid.

how's the weather down there? we got hammered today with a rain storm.
Occasional hard rain to light showers passing through this afternoon (Thurs). Saturday afternoon and evening 30% chance of thunderstorms. See the weather link I posted earlier for an hour-by-hour graphical forecast for Bath, OH.

Lee

Dorothy,

The weather has been changing fast and weather.com has not been keeping up with it. I can’t figure out what Lee sent. Maybe he can train me, but he would not be the first to shrug and say, “next student.”

We have had three days of off and on rain. I went to hike with the girls Wed evening when it said 20% chance of preceip. I drove four miles to the park and it started to pour. The girls were not happy when I drove home.

Weather. Com says
Fri, May 29, AM Clouds / PM Sun, high 73°, low 53°, 20% chance of rain
That should dry things out and let me mow the camping area in the afternoon. If not we will need the chain saw Saturday.

What may alter that is that Dolly is having an end of the year party for the First Graders she teaches and their parents in the afternoon. She has been baking all week. She asked that I show up about 2PM with latex gloves. She said my assignment is to make sure there are cookies on plates at all times. There is a God. I may not be able to get behind the steering wheel of the lawn mower.

Sat, May 30,
Weather. Com says, Partly Cloudy, high 72°, low 52°, 20% chance of rain
The radio says “it may rain”

Sun, May 31,
Weather. Com says Partly Cloudy, high 70°, low 56°, 10% chance of rain

Friday morning I plan to go look at the water falls.

John

well, I checked weather.com a few days ago and it said 80's. Today I checked and it said 60's. Isn't there a boyscout motto... be prepared? Anyway, no matter what the weather... it will be great anyway. I wish I could get there by 6am, but driving from Erie, I doubt it, unless I leave at 3am........... NOT! I found the map you gave us last year of the park. Thank you!!!

back to packing...

Dorothy,

You say you are going to have a Boy Scout with you down in the tent? Dorothy, be prepared.

I grabbed a handful of park maps on my last two walks for anyone that needs them. They are on a table just in the door from the pond.

Does anyone need directions to the house?

John

If there is room for one more, it looks like I will be able to make it this weekend. Won't be camping.

Nick

There is always room for Nick. We have missed your witty comments. Glad you will be here. Come when you are available, stay where you need to. I hope your Mom is well.

The event has been changing. Last I read and heard people will be showing up here for 9 AM coffee and talk Saturday morning. Some will be out shooting before that. Some like Jeff, Eva, Dorothy, Bob and Ann will be driving in from out of town.

The three falls and the Kendall Ledges are where most will be going before and after 9 AM. We will meet again around 5 PM for show and tell, dinner and more show and tell.

Same thing Sunday.

John

More rain for the falls.

8:15 PM Friday. This morning it was light rain. It was sunny this afternoon. I mowed the lawn. At 8 PM tonight it is pouring and thunder. Saturday is supposed to be partly sunny/cloudy and 72 degrees. Saturday night rain. Sunday sunny, high 71 degrees.
