I don't want to jinx it by saying something, but I keep getting told that I'm free to go over there - WITHOUT NATE! Hubby is home and fine with some father/son bonding without mom around (there's a car-related auction nearby, too). Don't have a clue how Nate will take it, but I'd say it's hubby's turn. MWA HA HA HA.
I'll likely still just do a day trip on Saturday, but hopefully a long one. I'm looking forward to seeing the farm museum.

Bethe,

Hope you make it. We really enjoyed your visit with show and tell last trip, short as it was. If you can escape longer you are more than welcome. Why you could even stay through Monday and see Dolly's class of 21 First Graders.

If you arrive and we are not at the house the museum is only 1.4 miles away.

Continue west on Everett Rd.
Turn right at the first road (Southern).
Cross over Rt. I-271
The Fry house and museum will be on the right at 2891 Southern Rd. Richfield, OH 44286 There are all sorts of signs out front about pumpkins, mums, museum.

John

It is less than a week before the event. The Porta Potty has been ordered.
The ten day weather forecast reads like this:
Friday: partly sunny, high 68 degrees, low 53 degrees, 10% chance of rain
Saturday: mostly cloudy, high 67 degrees, low 52 degrees, 20% chance of rain
Sunday: cloudy 68, 52, 20%
Wind less than 10mph all three days.

As usual the host is wondering who will visit us? Thank you all who have posted. Who else is coming? Any film lurkers are welcome.

Thanks,

John & Dolly

Looks like I won't make it again. The car is now doing mysterious things. Yesterday it wouldn't start after work and I suspected the clutch safety switch so I replaced it. Didn't make any difference. My daughter picked me up and brought me home and I drove the old pickup truck to work (1993. It isn't suitable for long journeys any more. It wouldn't make it. One of these days on a trip to the dump we'll just leave it there.)

Today after work I give it a try and zoom! fires right up. Drive it home and then later have to run to the post office. Zoom! Runs fine. Darn thing is going to leave me beside the road or in a parking lot one of these days and I'll have the opportunity to try again to figure out the problem, but I'd rather not be 200 miles from home when that happens. Sorry!

Mike

Mike,

Stuff happens. Sorry. We will miss you. Frustrating, that you have waited so long for some free time, and then this.

The trip up to Harbor Springs for Photostock was the last ride of my 2003 Highlander. The mechanics said it was looking at $3000 worth of work by snow fall and blue book was $5000. The girls are dirtying up a 2010 now. Dolly says, one dirty, hairy SUV pretty much looks like another.

John

I regret to say I will not be able to attend the gathering this weekend as previously planned. I will miss you all!! Have to catch you all next time... Maybe Jeff can have some ice cream and something with bacon for me!

Charlie,

Really sorry to hear you can’t make it. I was looking forward both to your company and learning more about wet plate.

John

What we need to know, is who is coming?
Who will be camping?
Who will be here when?
Of those coming, who would like to go to the Fry Farm Museum, who would like to go to the Flats, or is there a third as yet unspecified place you would like to photograph?

John

John, thank you. I of course will miss your company as well. And even though I cant make it, thanks for hosting this wonderful gathering, I am sad to miss it this time around. I hope you all have great weather!

John,

It looks like, at the last minute, I have found someone to care for aged relative on Saturday. If all goes well, I will able to make it.

I am greatly looking forward to it, these gatherings are a gas [what can I say, it was the 60's, I was there, and occasionally some distant (and usually inappropriate) memory bubbles to the surface].

Nicholas Lindan

I'm still fairly sure I can make it by myself on Sat. Hubby is pretty set on it happening. I'm hoping to leave here early (yeah, I know, even hubby is laughing at that one). I hope to be over there by about 10ish and I'd really like to shoot at the farm. I'll likely be throwing every format I have into the car. It'll just be a day trip and I'll likely leave around dinner time.

Sorry for the late response; I have been very busy. I will be there on Saturday.

I like the flats, so if anyone wants to go, I'm in for that.

Jeff

I'd like to go to the flats. I've never been there. I want to go back to Fry's farm as well. I'll be there sat and sun. (arriving fri afternoon)

I'll be there Friday night to Sunday morning, and will be camping. No Eva this time, so I'll be even more crude and unbearable than usual!

I'd like to shoot at the Ledges early Saturday, and then would like to shoot at the Farm Museum after that on Saturday.

Looks like Sue and I will be there. So looking forward to it. Will not be camping, unless Jeff sells us his Little Guy.

Hope to bring some of the older family cameras I had CLA'ed. Simple TLR and a RF, back in the 1950s. I think Sue would find the farm museum interesting. I too would like to go back to the flats but figure one thing at a time.

Jeff (s), I may be up for an early morning shoot at the Ledges. Maybe we can coordinate at Friday dinner.

Any good weather reports John?

Thank you. I was beginning to think we had lost the event. Because of the lack of response by Wednesday evening we canceled the $111 Porta Potty that was to be delivered Thursday AM. My social security budget didn’t want to get stuck. With this small volume of people you are welcome to use the house bathrooms until we go to bed. There is a small park about a half mile west of us on the north side of Everett Rd. that has Porta Potties for hours we aren’t awake.

It has been raining much of this week. More has fallen today and as of 11:00 AM more predicted for later today. That means I won’t be able to cut the grass in the camping area or around the house. Keep your boots on. Jeff B, bring a water proof drop cloth if you are not bringing the trailer. You are welcome to sleep with any of the girls to help keep warm. What happens in the woods stays in the woods.

Since everyone wants to go shoot in different directions we will have to sort that out when people arrive.

I can see Jeff B shooting at the Ledges in the AM, getting ice cream and then joining Bethe at the Farm.

Chris, I would suggest pairing up with Peter S and Jeff S Saturday. Both have knowledge of the Flats.

Nick, let us know which option appeals to you or offer yet another.

Will anyone be here Friday for supper? We were thinking Pizza again. If you are on the road you can call your order in and pick it up 20 minutes later. Teressa’s Pizza 4174 Wheatly Rd. Richfield, OH - 330-659-9555. That is the little shopping center on the corner of Wheatly and Brecksville Rd.

Thanks for coming. Anyone else planning to be here? When?

John

I'll be there around 7pm or so. No trailer, but I can handle the wet grass & no porta-potty no problem.

Are we meeting up on Saturday morning at all?

Thanks again for planning this event. Can't wait to see you all again tomorrow.

Lee G, we were writing at the same time.
When do you think you will get here for dinner?

Weather for the three days:
Friday: high 65, mostly sunny, low 46, 10% chance of rain
Saturday: high 65, low 47, scattered showers and cloudy, 30% chance of rain
Sunday: high 58, low 45, 50% chance of rain
You can get updates at weather.com using zip 44286

Jeff B, it might be easier and drier if you just parked in the driveway at the house and set up your tent by the apple trees where the Porta Potty usually is.

We will get our Pizza for a 7-7:30 PM dinner and hope you and the Gs can make it about then.

Plan B option to think about:

Considering the predicted weather, let me remind you that the Cleveland Museum of Art has a great exhibit about do it yourself photo book publishing with 136 DIY photography books for the touching and looking. http://www.clevelandart.org/visit/exhibitions.aspx

Here is a review of the exhibit.
http://the330.com/featured/photo-book-exhibit-at-cleveland-museum-of-art/

John, have you seen this exhibit yet? I'm planning on heading up sometime before it ends. What a wonderful idea for a show. I remember a couple of years ago during the Lee Friedlander exhibit at Cleveland they had many of his DIY style books on display.

Shawn,

Dolly and I did see this. It is overwhelming because there are so many styles and subjects. Some books are quite valuable and wired to the long table, but you can pick them all up and look and read. There are all sizes and qualities of paper. Even if you don’t like a particular photographer’s work it is fascinating to see the choices of style, print, paper and how the images were sequenced.

We saw this exhibit with the Youth & Beauty exhibit from the 20s which is now closed. There were many B&W photos by some of my favorites from the period. The two created what I call museum overload. I just can’t take it all in with one visit. I am reminded of our first visit to the Carnegie Museum where the tickets were stamped in large print with, “You can’t see it all in one visit. Use this ticket for a discount on your next visit.”

Let me know when you are coming. Maybe I can join you for my second tour of the dyi exhibit. I think this is one of the free exhibits. Entrance to the museum is free to the public. The Youth & Beauty exhibit had a charge for non members, but it is closed now.

The museum has been going through a multi million and multi year restoration. The huge atrium, the largest and most beautiful I have seen, opened a day or so before we saw the exhibit. Spectacular architecture.

John

The only thing changing more frequently than the weather is the forecast.

As of noon on Thursday the Atmospheric Administration is forecasting sunny for Saturday with a 14% chance of rain. High of 68. For this time of year that's about as good as it usually gets.

My preference for Saturday would be the Flats - hoping for interesting clouds, the forecast is 80% blue skies.
