NE OH Gathering, September 17 – 19, 2010


Sounds interesting to me.
 
Security in numbers does sound like a good way to tour the flats. Nothing like my last visit in the late '70s. Had to run, jump in the car and floor the gas to survive to tell about it. Last time I was there or at least on the main drag it seems it mostly yuppieville with bars and stuff. I could be wrong and hope I am because I am certainly intrigued by rusting old stuff. "Cleveland Disassembled." We wouldd need to get off the beaten path.

Also... a change in venue for Friday dinner might be tasty (lower the 45+ minute wait) besides I rarely and hungry enough to eat three horses, one would be fine. Too filling and the hooves get caught in my teeth.

If we're bringing pano setups to look at, I can bring my Kaidan KiWi-VL, which uses a 35mm rangefinder body and an offset mount to allow multiple still frames for stitching or regular printing and side-by-side display. Did you buy the Spinner, Lee, or just thinking about it? I'd be interested in seeing one in person. Same goes for the Seitz.

Dolly and I went over to the Country Maid tonight to buy some fresh peaches,
and some blue berries that they had frozen at the end of season,
and some tomatoes that they had just picked and were putting into display boxes.

After all that work we went next door and had some ice cream. At the table next to us were three generations of a family. Grandma was saying that in her job at University of Akron, her secretary was telling her that as a teen she worked at Country Maid. She said in the morning they picked peaches; pealed, sliced and pitted them; and in the afternoon they sold peach ice cream.

I was enjoying my fresh peach ice cream.

Have not gotten the spinner yet. Just got the email from Amazon they are now stocking. May have to wait I just made a commitment to purchase a white pop up tent with roll up sides and sand bags to use at art shows for the 2011 season. Bit too late to schedule anything now but I do hope to start doing some shows next summer. Thought about doing portrait demonstrations on site under the tent too, mostly to book future events.

These discussions of indexing panorama cameras sounds really cool. I saw some of the examples at the Lomo web sight of the spinner and that peaked my interest.

We have one physician who became a heart surgeon and an anesthesiologist. We have a second physician who became an anesthesiologist. We have an attorney. This event we will add a fire chief. I thought we were pretty well protected, but I wonder if we should start recruiting a psychiatrist? For a brief period we had a psychologist in Hiking Hounds, but his slender librarian wife said he stopped coming because his physician had told him he needed to exercise and lose weight. She said it frustrated him too much to see all those other people not struggling up hills that wiped him out.

Out of curiosity I drove into the flats Monday morning from 8-9 AM thinking what I would see might be similar to our Saturday morning together. I saw one walking man, two men sitting on front stoops looking as if they had just waken and clean up crews starting to work at some of the night clubs.

I also saw enough things of interest to me that I could generate twenty 8x10 and 7x17 negatives, or at least several weekend’s worth. As they say your mileage may vary, but I am going back. Very interesting juxtaposition of huge bridge structures, houses and businesses, literally touching each other. Juxtaposition of building use, scale, textures, angles, curves, shadows. I think I may have a plan for my next series. For me the beauty of sharing that with friends is that we each see it differently and will all come up with interesting but unique results.

Hey John and company. Not sure about my schedule for that weekend just yet. Hoping to make it over at least one day but can't be certain. Might be a last minute thing, I'm sure I can find something to keep myself busy until I'm able meet up with the group. =)

Great. I suggest we leave our house at 8:00 AM or earlier and head into Cleveland Saturday morning. The drive will take about 30 minutes. We can come back here about 5, show prints, go to dinner and look at more prints.

Thanks. What are they? U Akron is always looking. I know they look for Omega, but I don't remember which model. I can check if you have one of them. They keep 34 B&W ones going in two gang darkrooms and a number of color ones as well. I haven't wandered in the color darkrooms much at 85% color blind.

I'll take a recounting tonight of what I've got available. I think they are mostly Beseler though - good stuff, but I can understand a public darkroom wanting to standardize as much as possible.

Yes, htimsdj is looking. He e-mailed me after the last meeting to ask about setting up his first darkroom. I'll try to email him or call him to let him know if he shows up he can get an enlarger.
