I recently bought a few 120 format reels on ebay, but 1 is slightly taller... while the 120 reels are 6.2cm tall, this one is an exact 7cm tall. other dimensions are identical. Can anyone tell me what format this is? I'm guessing its an odd kodak 620-type thing.

As soon as I can get my hand on a digicam I'll post a shot in the non-image gallery..

I should probably add this: these are stainless steel reels, not plastic.

André what you may have is a 70mm reel. If so, I would like to buy it if you want to sell it.

BTW 620 film is the same size as 120.

I'll post a shot of it side by side with a 120 reel as soon as I can, and supply you with as many measurements as you need. Judging by the height, 70mm sounds right. BTW, the width and number of "spiral" is identical to my 120 reels. Does $30.00 sound fair? Just kidding... If it's in fact a 70mm reel, I'll give you a good deal (heck, I might even get a refund for it from the seller).

Just out of curiosity, which camera do you have that uses 70mm film? I've heard of hasselblad backs which use it, but have never seen one, or 70mm film for that matter.

And about the 620, I just mentioned it because it was the only odd size that popped into my mind at the time...

ok, I just posted 2 shots of the mystery reel w/ a 120 reel for comparisson. It's in the non gallery pictures. I would link to it, but my HTML skills are rusty...

André, I have a Hassleblad and two 70mm Hassy backs. In addition, I have a long roll 70mm back which fits a 4x5.

I also have a large supply of 70mm Kodak Tech Pan in my freezer.

Ahh! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

Well it looks like the reel has a new home!

Linhof also made 70mm backs for 2x3 and 4x5 cameras, and some of the bulk commercial portrait cameras made by Kamerz and such were 70mm long roll cameras. There was also a 70mm Combat Graphic rangefinder made for military use that took 70mm cartridges. It looked like a Contax IIa on steroids--a beautiful camera really with three Ektar lenses.

I considered getting a 70mm back for my 4x5", but film choices are really dwindling in this format. Right now, I think the only options are aerial films and Portra 160.

Mystery solved! It is a 70mm reel that accepts 1 meter of 70mm film. I loaded it quite successfully.
