Hi I'm new here and also new in large format paper development. I have old mahogany 8x10" camera, with 5x7" back and filmholders, for now I use paper, and in the beginning, everything was ok.. but now when I develope 3-4 papernegatives in a row, the second one and third turnd totally golden, I'm using new ilford multigrade iv rc paper, and ilford multigrade paper developer, rapid fixer... and stop, everything is new... but it turnes golden anyway.. what am I doing wrong? can anybody help me?

Welcome to APUG!

Golden all over, including the shadows? Or are the parts that should be black now golden?

How much developer are you using? Are you using single tray processing?

I do not know how you are processing them, but if the developer gets used up, it can make the paper negatives a light brown almost golden color. Sometimes I do that on purpose! If you are only using a small amount of developer, maybe it is getting used up by the first negative, so that it is too weak for the second and third negatives?

Or maybe the developer is getting contaminated somehow with stop or fix? That could reduce its activity.

Please try to describe in more detail how you are processing. Something is wrong and it should not be too hard to figure it out.

I use a processing drum, and black parts are still black, everything else is golden.. I use 500ml of developer.. stopbath and fixer.. so that could be the problem, I should try 1000ml maybe and use trays? I will try that next time.

I think 500 ml normal strength developer should be plenty for 3 paper negatives, even 8x10 size. This almost sounds like some kind of staining. The drum should be washed well between uses. hmmm.
