??...with trepidation, and in association with a di**gital comrade (but beautifully printed on water colour paper (him not me)

I'll be there 1-4 pm on April 10, 11, 12

“Focusing on the Byways” is a photographic essay by Ross Chambers on quiet places designed or wild, fallow or cultivated; neglected and disused or carefully conserved, with a tranquility of their own, found contrarily close to the busy highways.

Ross spent most of his working life in the film industry as a picture and sound editor, so always had an endless collection of pictures made by others before his eyes as well as the myriad of images everywhere that we all share.

He decided to investigate the craft of his cinematographic comrades, but by way of large and medium format still film cameras and traditional darkroom and printing techniques. Like many he found that establishing a style and genre was more difficult than learning the technology. The American photographer, Gary Winogrand, said of the photographer’s problems in a world full of images: “We know too much about how pictures look and should look. And how do you get around making those pictures again and again?”
Ross hopes he has resolved this dilemma in some of the prints in this show.

Ross, by the time you get to read this, your opening day will have finished, I hope you are happy with the day just gone by.

After reading your intention statement, it appears to me that your current postcard exchange print I have, is one that will be in the exhibition, augers well for you then.

Mick.
