What if my favorite things are inappropriate?

I'm a little late to the party, I've been busy with school. I'll try.

Ummm, could we maybe see your second favorite thing? We all have a pretty good idea what your first is! LOL
You have 9 days left. Give it a shot.

Me and my spouse rearranged our books. Books and she are some of my favourite things. (I like that wine also.)

I posted some pictures about trip to smoke sauna before. Here's another picture from that trip. It was a beautiful, misty morning. I don't know if this is acceptable photo, because I colorized it with a computer for a website about loghouses which I'm currently writing & shooting.

Thank you Marttiko for these entries. Your lovely wife and the books are certainly acceptable for this MSA. The colorized one I will have to ask the Administrator about.

It's fine to show the image here, but it can't be selected as a winner. For officially entering in the MSA contest, the photograph must be "pure" analogue. So no computer enhancements, digital internegatives, etc. allowed. Purely scanning of a negative or print is allowed - even if you have to slightly correct the scan a bit for tonality errors - but no Photoshop tinkering.

Ok. I suspected so. Rules said that adjustments should be what is accepted on apug galleries. I didn't find rules of those galleries as I'm not a subscriber. I might change that picture for non-colorized one later today.

Thanks for your input Bert. I was pretty sure that was the case. Appreciate your comment.

Two of the three pictures from inside the smoke sauna, which I posted before, were more than slightly corrected. Nothing more than setting the curves, but if the rules are that only slight correcting is ok then I don't think those pictures can be accepted. I posted them before I knew the exact rules.

Hi Marttiko, those are probably fine. With film scans, the general idea is to try to match what a print would look like. If you were a subscriber, and uploaded an image to the gallery, you'd see this as part of the rules:

We still accept neg scans in the galleries. We accept that some adjustment of contrast, brightness and sharpness may be needed to match the physical print and, for negative scans, to approximate a straight print.

Even when you have the print, it can be difficult to get a scan or digital photograph of it to look like the print in hand. The one I submitted is a scan of a print, and I manipulated the curves and colors trying to match it, but it still does not look as good as the original. The digital representation is at best an approximation, and we all know that.

Some times the scanning process introduces elements that are not present in the original: colour casts, contrast shifts and shifts in darkness and lightness. There really is no problem with correcting out those scanning introduced unwanted elements.
If you have a black and white photograph that you have digitally added colour to for one purpose, just edit it back to what you started with and submit it here.

I almost forgot! I always keep unmodified scan as well as few different black and white test versions as layers in the file. Here's one with all the color layers removed.

Today is November 1 and the Sept/Oct MSA has concluded.

Well, this was an interesting MSA for sure! We found that our favorite things included: a light bulb, an ocean and beach, experimenting with multiple exposures, a smoke sauna, a white dog, mountains, friends, hot air balloons, using an old camera, railway stations, books, a wife, wine, young ladies and models! Quite an eclectic collection!

I tried to comment on each entry as it was posted so now is the time to make my selection.

I reviewed each image carefully but alway came back to the one I felt best expressed the Theme: My Favorite Things,
and that one was One of These Days (with the hot air balloons) by macfred.

So, the topic/judging of the next contest is in your capable hands sir. Good Luck!

Thank you, Barb !! I appreciate it - I'm very touched and surprised ...

I will get in touch with Bert (TheToadMen) tomorrow, to ask him for starting the MSA November/December with my chosen theme. Hope you'll like it ...

I forgot to say ...

Theme for the MSA November/December is SUNDAYS -
what do you associate with Sundays - what do you like best on Sundays ?

Show your photographs on the theme of Sundays !

A few examples :

- going to the movies
- sleep late
- going to church
- visiting your parents-in-law
- family weekend getaway
- doing sports
- going fishing
- doing gardening
- taking a photo walk
- enjoying a day at the races
- going to the bar
- meet some friends
- ...

Please don't mind my very poor English - I'm not a native English speaker. Thank you all !

Congratulations to macfred!! I too liked your image "One of These Days" very much.
And thank you, barbara ann, for hosting a fine MSA with a great theme. I enjoyed it!
It is always good to ponder on your "favorite things in live" once in a while. Thank you!

I've created the new thread for the next MSA on behalf of macfred. You can find it (there was a url link here which no longer exists).

@(there was a url link here which no longer exists): can you make the new thread a "Sticky" again and unstick this thread?
Thanks,
Bert from Holland

Thank you very much barbara ann for everything in this MSA (honestly I wish it would have been more active participation)

Many congratulations macfred!

P.S. By the way ...

... a light bulb...

It was not a light bulb the favourite thing!

Ooops! It was in the thread so I assumed it was! Was being careful not to leave anyone out. Anyway, it was a really neat photo! Hope you participate in "Sundays".

Sundays? Oh my goodness, the day I never do ANYTHING! Never mind, I'll figure out a way to express it. That's half the fun of these assignments. Finding a way to interpret the theme!

It was "light", but don't worry. I will. Again, thank you!

Well, photographing ANYTHING it will be then.
