I'm delighted to have been informed by MattKing that the pleasant task of choosing a topic
and judging the entries to the September-October 2015 MSA has fallen to yours truly!

I have chosen: People or Things in Motion for the theme.

This can be as diverse as kids playing ball, a boat sailing on a river,
people on an escalator, waves crashing on the shore, flags flying in the breeze, an upside
down bicycle with the front wheel spinning, In short, if it's moving - shoot it!

I would hope that as many of you as possible will post your submissions in the MSA Gallery,
but rest assured I will give equal consideration to images posted in this thread as well.

So, andiamo! Let's get "moving" !

Have fun everyone,
barbara ann

Great theme barbara ann.

I've edited the title slightly, so that it will show better in the forum index for those who use tablets or phones.

Here is a link to the guidelines/rules for the assignment: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I'll update those guidelines shortly, to reflect the (sort of) consensus reached in the last round.

And for those who are wondering, although this is the "Monthly" Shooting Assignment, we take two months to do it.

Thanks,Matt. I tried to edit it myself when I realized (at 1am) I hadn't made the title correctly,
but was unable to figure out how to do it. I could edit the body pf the post but not the title.
How did you do it?

I have mysterious extra powers :whistling:.

But only with respect to the Monthly Shooting Assignment sub-forum.

Actually, when the controversy arose a while back, Sean and the moderators asked me to take on the responsibility of such things as making threads in the forum "stickys" and a few other administrative tasks. So I can do a few extra things in the sub-forum, including editing thread titles.

Great theme barbara ann! I'm currently travelling around Europe so didn't get a chance to upload to last month's theme, but I may be able to do so for this one.

This is a good one for me. I'll have to break out some delta 3200 For this. And shoot some concerts and wrestling events.

Really glad to see the enthusiasm for the "Motion" theme. I'll be posting some examples from my archives but don't think I need to.
You folks seem more than ready to "run" with it! :D

Examples from my archives for People or Things in Motion

Since I'm judging the contest I can't enter, but here are a few images from my archives that will hopefully give MSAers
some ideas.

Bird flying.jpg Hummer hovering.jpg Runners.jpg
Soccer save.jpg spinning.jpg Waves&jumpers.jpg

Couldn't figure out how to attach titles, but you get the concept...

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, like so many other cultural venues, is having a very hard time attracting younger audiences. In an outreach effort, this whole week they have been hosting a skateboarding performance along with live music. They set up a skate park outside on the main terrace along with a stage. As part of their "Millennium Stage" programming, the entire event is free of charge. I dropped by a couple times to watch a bit and shoot a few frames with the Rolleiflex.

Ahhh peter k! Guess I proved even an old gal can learn new tricks!
The important thing, I guess, is the image, no matter where it is.
Thank you for yours. :joyful:

This is my second effort at a night shot.
The first was trying a 1/4 moon lit landscape without the moon in the image, a couple of nights ago, and exposed it for five minutes. Wasn't long enough.
So last night got up after the moon set, about 3am.. had already gotten everything set up earlier, with the 3x4 speed, 135m lens, and took a twenty minute exposure, @ F11 shooting south, using Arista 400.
The horizon glow is from Phoenix, about 120 miles away.
Developed this morning.. in a homemade 2" ABS pipe, light tight tank, that I made, using D-76.. and after fixing, took a quick look before the washing process, and photo flow, to see if we had anything.
Ha... phew.. Well it was wayyyy underexposed.
Holding it up, could just barely discern the silhouetted edges, at the base of the neg... so ..ok... rinsed it off quickly with tap water... and hung it up, and left.
Decided to take a look, for tonight's effort, and see how much glow there was from Phoenix, as any longer exposure will of course increase that.
So I scanned it.. and it blew my mind...
Although you can hardly see anything on the neg.. its so thin and clear.. look what came up, after cropping some city lights that where to the right.
Negs a mess as it was not properly washed... but so what!
It proves you just never know what ya got, until you keep in motion, and except it.
