This is a friendly reminder that submissions for the MSA are required to be analog-originated, as per the guidelines posted here: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...s-revised-2015-07-2019-07-and-2021-12.126124/

Please feel free to debate this rule/guideline; perhaps it's due for a revision. Here's a thread where such a debate could take place (i.e., please don't use the October picture thread for it): https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/re-invigorating-the-monthly-shooting-assignment-msa.182174/

Whoops, I've misinterpreted the meaning of "mixed workflow", please feel free to delete my non-compliant postings.

I've left the first one (#37) in, with this note:
{Moderator's note: this very nice image is the result of digital capture, so not eligible for consideration as the "winner", but as the error was inadvertent, and as it is so nice, I'll leave it in anyways:}

One last one from me. New. This morning. Minolta XE7 with a macro lens. Very old TriX (Safety Film 5063) in Bishop's acetone developer, enlarged onto Kodak Polycontrast Rapid in Arista lith. iPhone photo of the print.

This is a freshly sprouted green bean plant from a seed my daughter and I planted a few days ago.

4x5 Crown Graphic with a 127mm f/4.7 Ektar. Shot on Fomapan 200 and semistand processed in DK-50 1:3 for 60mins with 2min initial agitation, and one midpoint agitation at 31mins.

Scan of silver print made on Fomabrom Variant 111 VC FB.

This was shot in the very late afternoon open shadows with an almost nonexistent subject brightness range. I used semistand to bump up the contrast of the middle tones and make the leaf edges pop.

@chuckroast - and anyone else who's reading - there should be a bit of basic information with the photo, like whether it's old or new, what camera, film, developing, negative scan or print scan, any charming anecdote you're willing to share about it.

WOW ... thanks ...
What a shot... haven't done much shooting in the last year and getting started again, and the shots we have been trying to take with wind in de air, and the shaded area of the leaves shots we been trying to take, has now gotten me interested in trying something new with this result of of your semistand image.

He Hawww... onward with a different edge to my film photography, 🙂

If you've never done semistand or EMA be patient - it takes patience to get it right. Notwithstanding all the naysayers here, you can do good work this way if you are ... patient

Notes here:

Especially, this section:

Got some scans back today, so slipping in under the wire...

New, Gold 200, taken on the Isolette that I bought from @Alex Varas

I should probably just refer people to my Photrio Gallery uploads, and suggest they pick 🎃.
They all fit within the "Old" category - this shot on Ektachrome being a colour example:

That's gorgeous Matt ... and I don't particularly like color (or Yucktachrome

'Shame Ciba isn't a thing anymore. That would be an amazing wall hanging.

Camera/Lens/Location??? Asking for a friend.

If you click on the photo, it should take you to that page of my Photrio Gallery uploads, where all should be revealed.
As an aside, I heartily recommend that people consider uploading to the Photrio Gallery, and then using the Gallery Embed function to show them in threads.

Just a few hours left until this month ends, folks.

And we're done. Welcome to November. I took this yesterday on Instax wide using my Kodak 3A Postcard Camera.

On to the winner. There were a lot of really great photos to look at and it made this not an easy choice. The "winner" could have been anyone.

I absolutely have to give an honourable mention to @BAC1967 for that photo of a dangling leaf. And to @chuckroast for his Crown Graphic photo.

However, this time I'm gonna declare @Mick Fagan the winner for his photo "New Life". So, it's now your turn, Mick.

Thanks for the mention Don! Congratulations to Mick!

Many thanks Don, I write this as I'm having a late breakfast on the 3rd of November. We are a day ahead of you in the Americas...😄

I was unable to get in yesterday, the site wouldn't load properly so I gave it a miss.

I'll have to think about what subject to pick and will look at a few of the immediate older monthly competitions to see if I can come up with something that hasn't been reasonably recently done.

G'day Mick. There is a complete list of past MSA topics in another very recent thread that was started about whether the MSA should accept digital images...

Thanks Ian, I have just discovered that list and as I'm sipping my award winning coffee; my brain is hopefully able to have some inspiration.
