I take very few photos at night. This was just before sunrise - don't remember the camera - handheld, braced against the open window of my van. From a few years ago.

@Don Heisz It must have been ages ago... I can't remember paying only 117.9 for petrol! Currently 184 here...

Yeah - probably about 6 years ago? I remember where this place was and I haven't been over there in about that long (I was driving to work). It's currently about $1.55, here.
It did drop to less than 80 cents during the first lockdowns of Covid, though.

Lived in Texas when I was kid, I remember the “Gas Wars”, one station got down to 17.9 ¢ per gallon. My folks thought that was fantastic.

Roger

I drove through Montreal when they had a gas war going on - and it was around 30 cents a litre. The average price at the time was around 75 cents a litre - so not really that drastic a cut.

Whatever happened to gas wars?? I remember in Victoria (Vancouver Island), it got down to 13 cents a litre. The line up was for blocks! I guess gas wars went away when all the maw and paw shops left...

@Ivo Stunga I love the one with the bird!

Thanks! It's a sandwich of 2 slides and scanned that way. One shot at night with shadows from streetlight on the facade, the other being of the bird in a tree.

Here's a blast from the past. I shot this maybe 20 years ago with a Toyo 45CF using a 150mm Apo Sironar-S on Acros:

This is Jack London's favorite watering hole on the Oakland waterfront and is pretty much the same as when it first opened in 1884. A little history.
I came across it yesterday while searching for another negative and decided to print it later today.

Lovely, has a stage/videogame setting vibe to my eyes.

NEW.
Washington National Cathedral at night. The scaffolding is there to assist in the repairs to the earthquake damage from 2011. And the little white spot above the tower is not a dust speck, but the beginnings of a star trail. Camera is a Canham 5x7 wood field, lens on this one was (I think - there was a lot less difference in the negatives than I thought there would be, making them harder to tell apart) the Cooke 10.4" Series II f4.5, exposure was 8-ish seconds @ f4.5. None of the three soft-focus-ish lenses I tried (Cooke Series IIa, Seneca 11" f5 petzval, Hermagis Eidoscope 11" f5) have shutters, so I used my hat and the 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand count for exposure.

Oh well done, real old time photography ...

Three lenses, you could call it a "Hat Trick"....

Regardless, it looks good, although I am unable to see the start of a star trail.

That may have gotten lost in the JPEG compression. It was only one star, and considering it was only what, 8-15 seconds exposure, its only slightly elongated, not a full star trail.
