New - today - I was testing a 1930 Leica III (originally a Leica I) I am fixing, testing Ultrapan 400, testing an acetone developer for it - This house is not far from mine. It's a porch, I guess, not a deck, but it's made like a deck.

New, a few days ago.

Backyard Deck.

Toyo 45G
Fujinon f/6.3 150mm
FP4+ D76 1:1

Some front shift and rear rise, just because I could. Actually I really just wanted to use the silky smooth geared movements, so instead of moving the tripod a small amount, I used movements. Jaw droppingly nice camera to use. Been too long since I've used this monorail.

@ Mick Fagan

That’s a wonderful looking spot to do everything from aerobics to relaxation! I’m glad you got to reunite with a favorite camera for this shot.

Been out and about with a trip to the beach.

Deck With a View.

Shen Hao HZX45-IIA
Fujinon f/5.6 65mm with centre graduated filter.

camera was zeroed, as there is only about 5mm extra coverage with this lens.

This falls into the 'old' category as I shot it about a year ago. It was shot on a Leica M-A, 35mm Summarit/2.4 ASPH on Ilford HP5+ film.

@Don_ih - I really like the contrast here. What is an acetone developer? Is this an experimental formula?

@Mick Fagan - Nice view. Like the use of diagonals.

@logan2z - I like the shape and the 1/3rds placement of deck in relation to the landscape. Potential album cover.

One of my sons wasting no time getting to the beach. Maybe ten years ago. Can't remember the film or camera ;-)

What is an acetone developer?

When acetone is mixed with sodium sulfite, in water, the ph rises. I've been experimenting with a developer called Bishop's - but there's a member here named @Merg Ross that has used a variation of it a lot. I'm trying to get a good result from it with Ultrapan 400 (which is Foma 400). I've deviated from the formula you can find on here by adding hydroquinone. I still haven't finalized the amounts or times.

@Mick Fagan (Deck With a View)

And an image that creates a desire to spend an afternoon on it, sitting in that chair. Nice!

@logan2z

I really like the visual atmosphere that this image creates. There’s a slight eeriness to it for me, created by what seems to be storm clouds moving in (or moving out), with the deck overlooking a vast grassland, and a warning to dog owners, daring any to step foot on that walkway along with their companion. A great scene!

@warden

Even without your explanation, this image tells such a story to the viewer. And it seemed just the right moment for also catching the glow of the sun at the horizon. Thanks for the submission!

This is old, from 2020, and there is or was a deck there somewhere. No idea what film, but it was shot with a Leica III.

Warden, that picture of one of your sons, perfectly illustrates the enthusiasm of youth, perfect for a 21st birthday picture board photograph.

I thought I'd have some film developed by now, but I guess not, so here is another old submission if it qualifies. My work building has a raised structure with seating that goes around the side and back. It's kind of large for a deck but serves the same purpose.

We’ve had some incredibly nice submissions for this January MSA. If you have any (or more) images to share, today is the last day to post them. 😊

Thanks to everyone for your wonderful interpretations of this MSA theme. It was difficult for me to choose just one image that stood out as a favorite. I’m passing the honor to host the February MSA to Mick Fagan for his “Deck With a View” composition.

Cheers!
