The theme for the December competition is music - in demand here are photographs that have to do with music in any way.
Photos of instruments, musicians, bands, hifi equipment, vinyl records, sheet music or similar.

MSA Guidelines
For first-timers, the following summary of standard procedures should help (I am indebted to Ken Nadvornick for putting most of this together, and not objecting when I proposed to re-use [aka borrow] it):
(1) Take note of the MSA assignment, which you will find inserted into the title of the thread.
(2a) For the NEW Category, take your photo(s) according to the assignment guidelines. You are expected to shoot something new rather than grabbing from your archives. The exposure must happen during the period of the current MSA theme - usually one month - and must of course be submitted during that period.
2(b) For the OLD Category, you can use thematically appropriate Photos that you have taken in the past.
2(c) For either the NEW Category or the OLD Category, photos must originate as something that is consistent with Photrio's Analogue only section principles - i.e. using traditional (non-digital) processes. Scans from prints, slides, or negatives are permitted, but any digital adjustments should be strictly limited to what would be acceptable in the Photrio analogue only galleries. Please be sure to label which Category (OLD or NEW) your submission belongs in. Film and exposure information plus any special technical information is also good.
(3) You can post your photo in the MSA Gallery, or you can host your photo elsewhere and link to it in the thread, or, you can post it as an attachment to a message in the thread and it will show as a clickable thumbnail.
(4) It's all for fun, there are no prizes.
(5) at the end of the MSA, the previous winner who chose the theme:
(a) is encouraged to nominate from each of the "OLD" and "NEW" categories one photo that is the best photo in that category that illustrates the theme; and
(b) in any event, will choose (from those category "winners", if applicable) the single photo that is the best photo submitted as part of the current MSA that illustrates the theme.
The member submitting the "winning photo" will be declared the MSA "winner" and will have the opportunity and responsibility to choose a theme for the next MSA, and then choose a new winner from the submissions that follow.
Additional hints about uploading your photographs...
(6) How to upload to the MSA gallery: You perform the upload in the same way you would upload to the standard gallery, except you press the "'All subscriber galleries", you find a drop-down menu and press the Monthly Shooting Assignment, thats it.
(7) You can instead, attach your image to a post in this thread. Or you can link to an image that is hosted elsewhere - please be sure all members will have access to such images, and that the links remain current.
8) Most importantly, have fun!

This is a great subject for this time of year when there are so many indoor and outdoor performances this month.

OLD - listening room in abandoned Soviet Hi-Fi factory RRR (Radiotehnika, VEF-Radiotehnika, REMR Radiotehnika and other names), Riga - took a row of 3 folding chairs, saved from oblivion

The same factory - inside Anechoic Chamber - a gigantic cube with mesh floor suspended in the middle of it, and long sound absorbers on the walls - meters tall and triangular shaped to absorb low frequencies too. Quite an experience to just be there in silence.

A friend lost in said Anechoic Chamber to better illustrate the size of the room - now demolished to free up a parking lot...

What About Bob, the very first thing I noticed is that your little finger on each hand is separated much more than the other three fingers.

It is a very soothing image.

@macfred: Thanks. There's something about classical guitars that can put you in a good space.

@Mick Fagan: It can extend a good distance. I am able to reach the A note on the high E string with the pinky finger while the pointer finger is on the F note on the lower E string when playing a steel stringed or electric guitar. With a classical guitar this can be a bit of a challenge because of the wider neck. Slows me down some. I am not a pro player. More for the fun of it.

I bought that Cordoba around March of 2022. It is actually a replacement of the Cordoba that I had originally bought. A worker at the music shop was changing out the strings and he didn't put that protective piece near the bridge, in case of a string snap. The exterior of this guitar is sort of on the fragile side and that was found out not long after buying it, like the day before the accident, lol. I was informed that the final high E string was almost ready to go but then it snapped and it made a scratch right near the bridge area, right into the body's finish. So the worker had another copy of the same guitar and just swapped it and then put some money into a store account for my troubles, for purchasing some odds and ends.. The tone on this guitar copy sounds somewhat better than the one I originally bought.

Old image: Later part of 1992
"Sound System - 1992"

Pentax K-1000 with 50mm f/2 lens
Kodak T-Max P3200 at 3200
Exposure: No clue but safe to say it was handholdable
Developed in D-76 but not sure if it was 1:1 or stock. I was at HCC at the time and D-76 was the standard developer used there.
Print Exposure: Beats me but I know the paper was Ilford and was developed in Dektol and later on toned at home using Kodak's sepia toner. I remember that day of toning very well. My mom wasn't too happy with me stinking up the back end of the kitchen using that stuff.

I miss these sound systems. Before this we had the chrome decks and receivers with the sliders and switches.

Remember to scrub the sink and counter both before and after using the kitchen sink for photography.

Another old one. Ilford Delta 400 120, Hasselblad 80mm lens. exposure not recorded. Some years ago while in Salzburg I went out early to do some photography and heard band music. I followed the sound and came to a large open square that was filled with musicians and others in various period garb. It turned out to be a folkloric festival that happened once every ten years and ended with a parade with horses, marching bands men as soldiers with old muskets etc.

Thanks Mick. The airline had misplaced our luggage but at least I had my cameras. I was told that event happened for one day every ten years. I didn’t know about it but as mentioned heard the music and followed my ears.

@What About Bob : These are state-of-the-art equipment (compared to my hi-fi from the early 70s) 😏

@markjwyatt : beautiful photograph - nice composition !

@jeffreyg : excellent contribution to the theme - really like the dark tones.

Old category, but keeping on with the Charlie Brown theme. Adam Shulman Trio plays music from A Charlie Brown Christmas at SFJAZZ. Featuring Adam Shulman on piano, John Wiitala on bass, and James Gallagher on drums. Note the Christmas tree on stage. 😄

Nikon FM2n, Nikkor-S Auto 55mm f/1.2, Kentmere Pan 400, developed in LegacyPro L110 at 1:31 for 5.5 minutes.

Didn't want to post this one as its a pict of me and its not a great photo, but it does fit the theme, I haven't posted a pict for the theme this month and I got pressure to post it.

soundcheck from my biggest show I ever played, around 92 or 93. friend used my camera, FE-2 50mm 1.4 AI-s lens with I believe superia 1600. I cant find the original film, but this is a scan of the wet print.

This is a new one. RCA Victor 45rpm 45-EY-2 record changer. This was one of the earliest 45 rpm record changers produced by RCA in the early 1950's after they came out with the new 7" 45 rpm format. I recently finished refurbishing it so it works great now. I still should re-cap it but that's another project, I just concentrated on the mechanical parts since the amplifier still works.
Rolleicord with Kodak Tri-X 400 developed in Rodinal 1:50. I used a Rondo close-up attachment #2.
