Welcome to the Monthly Shooting Assignment! The new theme for the MSA - July/August 2016 is:
"Your Own World".
Make some photographs of your surroundings, your home, the neighborhood, your family, a local park, your secret garden, ... You can show your work or hobbies or even visualize your imaginary world. Be creative in any way you like in interpreting this theme.
I will be looking among the entries for atmosphere, lighting and the decisive moment.
Remember: All images must be taken between July 1st and August 30th 2016. You can post the results here and in the MSA Gallery not later than August 30th.
You can find the Monthly Shooting Assignment Guidelines here:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
Enjoy yourself and shoot some film!!

Great theme Bertus!

Like usual, I will shoot for this theme, and like usual, will probably miss the deadline for developing and scanning the images...

Should be perfect for my upcoming mini-vacation on the Gulf Islands.

As I can see at least one of the Gulf Islands from my kitchen window, I think that counts.

Not an official entry for the MSA contest itself - for it was taken in June - but I think this pinhole image of my home suits the theme well.

Just finished scanning last Wednesday's roll. Ektar 100. The light was just perfect at my usual meditation place.
Got a few rolls more to finish and scan until end of August, but this is a lovely theme that has given me lots of ideas!

My garden is as important to me as photography. My husband helps with some dirt moving, watering, and eating, but it's my garden. This year I'm trying hugelkultur for the first time. I've got 2 dozen squash and pumpkins set already, growing where stumps were a few brief weeks ago.

Holga wide pinhole camera. Hand-coloured.

I just walked inside from my own garden and was staring the the pattern on the green pumpkins, thinking about a color pinhole photo! How odd to come inside and then see this!

"Hugelkultur" is not a veggie, but a method. Basically wood waste under your garden soil. I piled dirt and compost around 2 stumps, planted squash and pumpkins and stood back. Grew like crazy.
After a hot April and May, June and July have been cool here, so my heat lovers like tomatoes and eggplant are lagging.
I plan to post more garden photos Bertus.....

I have an "around the house" dry plate from exposure testing that I was going to clean and reuse next time I coat a batch of 4"x5" plates, but I'll scan it and submit.

Back of the House, with Activity.

Scan of a 4" x 5" dry plate photography negative.

The hand-cut glass plate negative was hand-coated with a homemade emulsion, which I test to be rated at ~ ISO 0.5. At EV 14 (the grass in this picture), the exposure is 3 seconds at f/16. Taken on July 2nd, 2016. EV 16 on the whites (the top of the play structure is actually blue), and EV 9 or 10 in the shadow. So the emulsion has a very steep contrast curve, as to be expected. Surprised the kids stood still.
