Thanks for sharing this update. I will be following this as I lost a great uncle who was a Spitfire pilot during the evacuation. I do hope Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh sign on, both excellent actors.

BTW: just saw another article on this and their talking with Mark Rylance too. No doubt off his most recent outstanding performance in Bridge of Spies.

To put things into perspective: In Germany over the last years IMAX cinemas have closed or changed to digital projection. Only 5 are left, with at least 1 being digital.

In general there are only few cinemas worldwide and only few movies. Thus no need for much print film.

But IMAX camera takes 65mm mm.

Yes, both 65/70mm systems use 65mm film in the camera and 70mm to make prints. (the extra space was originaly allocated for magnetic sound tracks) The Difference:

IMAX 70mm transports the film Horizontaly and each frame is 15 Perforations WIDE. (your medium format approach to cinematography)

"Regular" 70mm transports the film Vertically and each frame is 5 perfs HIGH.

"Regular 35mm" transports the film Verticaly and each frame is 4 perfs high. (but not all the frame is fully used in most cases)

the negative film in both 65 and 35 is perforated 1866, so each perf is 0.1866 center to center with the next one. Regular print stock is KS 1870 so the perfs are 0.1870 inches center to center along the lenth of the film, that is also the normal format for film used in still cameras.

So using a mix of 65mm and imax camera implies that some scenes are captured on 5 perf, and some on 15 perf.
