OK, I got two actual Voigtlander plate holders to fit my (supposedly) 9 x 12 cm AVUS.

However, they have 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Kodak Cut Film Sheaths inside them and they appear to have a raised metal insert around the edge that would not allow a true 9x12 cm glass plate to insert down into the plate holder.

What the heck?

Is there yet another type of plate holder strictly for 9 x 12 cm that I will have to track down? The insert seems fixed and not easily removable...

The sheath will come out, but not the "insert"; it seems to be built-in, but have a look and see if I am not thinking straight. This is the holder with the film sheath removed...

So, is everyone just slapping their forehead, saying "What a dummy", or are these unusual holders?

I have a couple of holders like these, and the inserts can't be removed. They were probably soldered in place and sold like that.

Yes.

Oh, this just gets better and better...

I never had issue with the metal 9x12’s I bought. They just worked as intended (or to say, I made them work).

I also have a couple of those Voigtlander 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 plate holders. Looks like they are only for that size film. No spacing insert to remove. I picked these up cheap along with some Zeiss 665/7 plate holders set up for 3 1/4 x 4 1/4. The Zeiss holders do have a removable spacer insert that a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 film sheath slips into. The spacer (or adapter may be a better word) is Zeiss marked 725/4. Removal of the spacer allows regular 9x12 film sheaths to be used.

Thanks, ChuckP. Good information to know!
