Continuing experimenting with Crawley's FX-4 Formula I mixed his ' Later Formula' with less Phenidone and more Hydroquinone. Having run out of the Old Tri-X of unknown date found in fridge i loaded an 03/2009 dated Ilford HP5+ into my CANON A-1 that I have not used for a long while. I found even with the 'OLD' Tri-X it was better to set 800 ASA so did the same and gave 11.5 mins 1+1 @ 20oc -- well the negs were dense !! I cut time to 11 mins but still dense so on third strip set 1200 ASA and gave 10 mins which was Just Right ! Thinking it may be the Canon Metering I also took frames using a hand Weston Master V set to 1000 ASA ( cannot set 1200 on that) and negs seemed to agree. I did some Darkroom Prints of the Contrasty Negs on old Ilfospeed Glossy Grade 2 and got some good prints . I have now loaded a 24 Exp HP5 + 03/2009 and set 1200 ASA in CANON A-1 to see what I get doing 'Street Photography' in the dull winter light.
