Jim. before you run amok with felt and glue, look carefully at your felt. I make this suggestion because I have a little project for which felt looked like an easy way to make some light seals. So I went to a crafts store and bought some black felt to see how it would work. It isn't opaque enough.

Jim, Ill reiterate what has been said prior already, I had similiar problems with my 717 when I first started...
I remedied it with a lot of trial and error and many sheets of cut down 16x20 silver paper to test.
One thing that made a huge difference was I took a really bright flash light put it inside the fully extended camera turned all the lights off in the darkroom and stayed in there about 20mins, my eyes adjusted and after that I noticed at least 30 light leaks. Everything from pinholes to full seams of slight amounts of light. I did do what you suggested with some self adhesive felt lining where the filmholder rests against the camera back when inserted and that made a big difference when sealing up the connection between holder and back. The biggest difference was taking the time in the dark to wait 20mins and let my eyes adjust and so many more were visible.

OHHH Jim, tif, and Robert I just hit the motherlode of some old pioneer buildings not on the main drag of a town down here. It's all in a town called fondly by the locals as Escapoop. Or translated Escalante. I'm going over this coming weekend to check it all out. There is also a small arts festival at the same time. Now if it doesn't snow on me three weekends in a row, I will be fine. So Jim if you have a hankering come on over. You can park, and I promise to not drive to radically. Robert and Tif if you come down, make sure Robert's GPS system is working. I can't beleive what I saw in some ink drawings at the Cedar Arts Festival. They guy promised to show me the places personally. Junkage, pronounced younkage for those who don't speak Danish, galore just a short drive from me. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. Guess I was too busy dating the first time I went to Escapoop back in the late 70's
