All analogue, LF format, B&W film and an alt-photo print! Even the subject is analogue transport.

It has certainly been a stellar 2 months!

I always miss the end of things, I probably won't get to any of the final stuff that I have that sitting in my fridge right now waiting to be developed haha, such is life. But I'll admit, I can't at all compete with any of the fancier photography imagery like cyanotypes and wet plate work.

My ultimate goal was going to be to take a picture of a birth, being that one of your favorite subjects and also being that the birth canal is... a canal, and therefore in my mind qualifies as a means of transportation... However that baby won't be born till February... Lol

I'm just going to leave this up until you see it - not really part of the MSA. If you do get to that birth and get any decent shots I'd love to see them, if you have the parents' permission to share. Birth is a tough assignment - harder than weddings, because the photographer can't direct anything.

My last minute entries for this MSA - Transport: some pinhole images.

I live outside a small town at the "Veluwe" in the middle of The Nertherlands. It's a very large area with fields, woods, heather and small streams. Close to my home there are some planes ruled by nature. There is a small stream called "Egelbeek" (= Hedgehog stream) that originates close by and is needed to transport the rain away. The name of my street is "Waterstreet" so you can imagine why this small stream is very important to us.
Nature's natural transport of water in this area!!

I like to wander around with my panorama pinhole camera and take images along this small stream. I used a 6x19 cm wooden pinhole camera loaded with expired Fuji RVP 120 roll film (= Velvia 50 ASA slide film). Exposure times about 40 seconds. All images are straight scans without any Photoshop adjustments:

And, I was thinking of not highlighting that so much as finding a way to get a shot where the mothers face pushing would be lighted up in someway but the lower area would be in shadow only sort of hinting at what was happening even if it was obvious so you weren't seeing the direct birth canal itself... Lol

I guess it's pushing it a little bit, but then again I could always just take a picture of the birth canal itself with no baby at all but I don't think that you'd appreciate that as much, though I do have a few of those since I'm working on a macro parts project about helping women feel beautiful "down there" based on how insecure many are about that area, but that isn't often APUG friendly material and also would be out of context if not contained within a complete book of the subject.

Pinhole will do that for you. No corrections in the glass what so ever, heck, no glass at all.
It's a surprise every time how the colours will turn out. I have had good successes before with Fuji film on this account.
Especially with old expired film, like Velvia, NPC160 and NPH400.
And a good designed pinhole camera helps as well. I think my best images might be pinhole images.
I just love shooting pinhole cameras. It helps me focus on the image (in my mind) itself without distractions like choosing equipment, elaborate techniques, menus, view finders, .... Only my own knowledge and experience to trust and to blame.

My motto in photography is a saying by Ansel Adams:

" ... avoiding the common illusion, that creativity depends on equipment alone ... "

(But still I won't give up my Leica M7, Bronica SQ-B, RF-645, not even my Nikon D200. When will I learn from what is right in front of me .....)

My last minute entries for this MSA - Transport: some pinhole images.....

Bert, those are gorgeous! The first and third are simply wonderful... I love the colors. Also I like that the rainbow sunflare isn't too exaggerated in the third one... just enough to give a nice rainbow glow to it. Really lovely.

I'm with you on pinhole... somehow it is very liberating and freeing to envision a photo with a pinhole camera... I think because it is more like play and less like exacting super-critical photography. Luck and chance and discovery are a bigger part, so it is like opening a present to find out what wonderful things the camera has seen! I think of it almost as a separate hobby from traditional photography.

Well... unfortunately either my developing technique isn't as good, or my ability to expose properly etc, but D3200 in 35mm just isn't as good as P3200 in 35mm, I love D3200 in 120, but I got some D3200 for christmas and was trying it out, it just seems extremely more grainy than P3200.

Without further ado, I was looking out my window (and I'm not a birder so this is just a guess) but this ... HAWK? was randomly in my back yard standing on either a small bird or mouse, and making a strange 'wrreeek' noise, which is why I went to the window in the first place. I went to grab my camera, threw on my 70-200 and set the shutter to about 1/600th and then adjusted the exposure based on the light outside, got a few feet out the door, took one shot, then went to take another and my camera died... agh!! ran back inside to get a fresh battery, hands panicking and fumbly, but got it done, ran back outside then crept slowly down the back porch aiming at the bird, shot one shot, then stepped a bit closer and BAM he took off! I was able to get just a few clear(isn) shots of him as he flew, I'm shocked they all came out in focus but I'm fairly steady handed, still, I was glad it wasn't a total loss, unfortunately I almost always shoot on manual, so I didn't think to set it to AV (aperture priority) mode, so as he went into the darkness of the tree's I could only get his silhouette ...

The reason I'm submitting this one is that airplane flight is transpiration, so why can't animal flight be?



PS I'm not going to add this to the gallery, just posting it here, it's still a submission but at gallery size, you can't really see anything and it's just not worth clogging up the system with 4 grainy so-so images LOL (I sell my work well don't I?) haha

The titles are "MKD GAS" and "Transportation on the Farm".

"MKD GAS" refers to the gasoline sold to farmers for use in farm machinery. It is cheaper, because it doesn't have all the road taxes to it, but it is illegal to use it in vehicles that are driven primarily on public roads. It has colour added to it to "mark" it as being for off-road use.

The attachments suffer badly from the process of re-sizing for APUG.

West Coast weather. I know it well. Went for an early afternoon walk, and took few photographs. With HP5+, the light level demanded f2 @ 1/30th. Under the trees, it was too dark to take anything handheld.

Santa Clause lives on a farm and drives a tractor to deliver his presents?? So is he red dye on his clothing from all the gas he spills trying to refuel while still in the air?

Nope, that is the owner of the farm.

As it turns out, he was as effective a model as anyone there that day, including the models that had lots more experience/did paying gigs as well..

I don't think he spent any time with the makeup artist though .

I haven't done the necessary work (re-sizing) on most of the shots to use them in APUG .

But see post #178 in this thread for one example with an amateur/part time model.

She and her twin sister are quite good, and really fun to work with. They have helped my darkroom group club a couple of times.
