MSA, Public Spaces, July-August 2014
Holy Toledo! 48 entries in this round of the MSA!
Flying Camera's 6 entries were all excellent. A fountain, and a fountain triptych; a Barcelona Metro station, a Toronto station, (his Washington station was withdrawn, as it wasn't taken this summer); an expensive gentrified gelato shop; and a Starbucks - which is my favourite of his contributions and made it onto my Top 5 list.
In a tie with 6 entries is Toadman: a postcard perfect shot of Paris Disneyland; a double exposed street shot of Bogense, followed by a harbour shot; 2 colour and one double exposed B&W of Sct Knut Kirke. I really enjoyed his musing about the history of the Kirke. His shot of the ceiling had to be placed on my top 5 list.
Mooseontheloose was generous with her entries as well, making 5. Morioka Drummers, Looking Up, Yakuta girls, Street Crossing, and Loft were all made in Japan during festival season. I particularly like Street Crossing - I think it has to go on the list too.
Siompa is a brand new member of APUG with 4 entries - inside Notre Dame Cathedral as a service ended, a bird's eye view down into a museum giftshop, a group of yoga enthusiasts in the park, and from his first home developed roll, a shot of the Gothenburg airport. I really love the angle of view in the giftshop and it becomes number 4 on my top 5.
Thomas Bertillson gave us Strollers and Shades, an amusing shot taken in a public market, as well as a shot of family members buying cheese, and a late entry of a conversation in front of a museum with very pleasing lines framing the conversational group.
Soncorn, another new member brought us 3 photos, The Old Red Courthouse, a garden with lots of people enjoying the space, and an art installation - which is my favorite of the 3 - lots of interesting details.
Barbara Ann, a regular with the MSA, gave us a hot dog stand, a deserted and stormy beach, and a night shot on a busy boardwalk. I'm partial to the beach shot with the overturned lifeboat and upended chair.
Bertus, another regular who never fails to impress shared 2 van Dyke prints on linen. He knows I love alt prints.
Heinz made 2 lovely contributions - a lookout over the Baltic Sea, and a wonderful shot of Marienkirche in Lubeck. I visited that church when we were in Lubeck 4 years ago and love the light he has captured. This one too has to be added to my top 5 list.
Ajmiller shared his images taken on a mini golf course in Scarborough, and at a county show, complete with cattle.
NedL: a pinhole campfire circle, and then his amazing Petaluma Adobe - calotype negative and salt print positive of a public space with lots of history. A lovely print worth all the work put into it. This one has to make the list - making it bulge a bit, I'm afraid.
Munz6869: gave us 2 lovely shots of the newly refurbished Capital theatre in Melbourne.
IGI, another first time contributor, entered a shot of the Brussels Metro. Very dynamic. Geez! It has to go on that top 5 list, which is now over-flowing.
StoneNYC contributed Stillness in Motion - a seascape taken as a long exposure with lovely foggy looking water.
Vophex - with his very first post on APUG, shared a shot taken in Union Station in LA. Lovely graphics to it.
Nsouto with his shot of a fishing hole was one of the very first entrants, and started the trend for lots of colour in this round.
Rattymouse gave us a photo of St. Paul's square in Rome, another colour early entrant.
Polyglot's fisheyed breakfast bar picked up on previously posted night shots on the street.
A last minute entry by Optiken - a photo shot in an airport, too bad about the developer problems.
The very last entry was by Matt King - a very pretty car taken at a big car show. Luckily I wasn't tempted to add this to the top 5 list. It's not a British car. Sniff.
A HUGE thanks to all who took the time to think about the topic and enter. I loved how very international this round was, and that there were a number of new participants to the MSA.
My TOP 5 list swelled to seven making a choice very tough.
Drum roll............. The winner is mooseontheloose for her street crossing.
Rachelle, the ball is over to you to pick the next topic. Good luck coping with the stress of choosing a winner for Nov. 1st.
