I've never participated in it but if someone wants to give me the scoop on it and judging, I would judge it.

If you are not planning to participate in this round ( Jan + Feb ) and want to volunteer to judge, I think it would be great to have a "neutral 3rd party"

To judge, on March 1st you would look though all the images posted in this thread, and all the images posted for this round in the (there was a url link here which no longer exists). Usually the judge makes a nice comment or two on each image and then chooses a winner. The winner then chooses the theme for the next MSA. It's harder than it sounds because there will probably be several or many photos that you like, diverse and you'll like them in different ways. It's hard to pick just one!

Hi,
Since I was the last judge in the MSA I would like to suggest to keep the thema as is: "H20 Isolation".
There are already entries posted or in the making so let's stick to this theme, even if Stone isn't online anymore.

About the "interim judge", I like the idea of NedL:

It seems to me that this is a good and fun theme, and also that it's not as much fun to participate in MSA when you are the judge. So here's my idea for an "MSA judge lottery", where none of us will know who the judge is until the end. This way we can all enjoy making photos for the next two months.

An other variation is this. Everyone can post one or more images to this MSA until Saturday February 28th. Everyone who has contributed to this MSA is allowed send in a PM with his personal Top 3 for the best images (excluding his/her own) until Monday March 2nd. Every first place gets 3 points, every second place gets 2 points and every third place gets 1 point. We'll add all the points after voting and the image with the most points has won. This way everyone can participate and judge the other entries as well. The winner will be the new host for the next MSA.

Another thought on picking the judge: If you had a runner-up in mind for the last contest, they become the judge. Kind of like what happens when Miss America gets caught letting men not her husband do lines of cocaine out of her cleavage. She gets disqualified, and all of a sudden, Miss Kansas now gets to feel special for the rest of the year.

Let's do it this way. I'll PM the persons from my Top 4 from last MSA to see if any of them is able/willing. I know NedL recently was judge himself and would rather participate this round. If they all can't we'll go by my option of everyone voting at the end of this MSA, or - if that doesn't work - I'll do it myself as a sort of continuation from last MSA. So we can go on with more important issues like SHOOTING PHOTOGRAPHS!

All in favor say AYE ......

I hesitated to submit my selection for this event, considering the subject matter (I did this shot several days BEFORE Thomas Bertilsson created his extraordinary photo), but what the heck.
Shot with my Minolta Autocord and Ilford Delta 400, processed in D76 1:1

Have NO idea what's going on, but please, can we keep the H2O Isolation theme? I've already shot multiple images and would HATE to have to start over with something else!
Thanks to whomever is in charge.

Don't worry: the theme is (and stays) "H2O Isolation".

Thank you gentlemen! I shall resume the mission. Luckily there is plenty of ice and snow here (non-liquid water) for me to play with.

Here are two entries for this MSA. Both photos were taken on 1/10/15 at the same location.

I'm trying to make at least one pinhole image for every MSA. I made this one on Saturday.

msawateranaph.jpg
.

This is on a 3-1/2 x 7 inch paper negative, wrapped around the inside of an oatmeal can.
The pinhole is in the lid of the can and is a tiny triangle formed from three razor blades.
It takes some practice to aim anamorphic cameras like this one.
I could explain what you are seeing here, but the intent is to be somewhat abstract and it's probably better left mysterious!

Lots of film to develop for a more traditional MSA photograph, it's a fun topic!

I have two version of the same image to present for this months assignment. It is the second version the partly solarized one that I like best.
comments welcome of course
