For all you historic/alternative printers in Santa Cruz and Bay Area.
I would like to announce that there is a new group "Historic Photo Processes Forum" which will begin meeting on September 29, 2012 at the Museum of Art & History in Santa Cruz.

Here is the link--- Historic Photo Processes Forum | Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History at the McPherson Center

Thanks to the efforts of Charles Berger, we have a room at the museum for our monthly meetings. Each meeting will feature a guest speaker and an opportunity to see and share contemporary work made using vintage photographic printmaking techniques. I have high hopes for this new group to inspire, share ideas, exchange knowledge and see some really great art.

The 1st meeting will have Charles discussing the UltraStable color carbon process and displaying prints. For October I have been informed that we will have Jim Collum speaking on Platinum Printing and in November we have Hedwig Heerschop speaking on gum bichromate. I have seen the work of all these artists and can say that their prints are stunning.

Hope to see you there

Wish I was closer...700 miles is just a bit too far to travel for me right now.

Would love to meet Charles and see some prints. Looking forward to hearing Tod Gangler speak at Alt-Photo Pacifica the weekend before.

Best of luck to you and Charles with the new endeavor.

Can you tell us more about the Historic Photo Processes Forum? Is this a group that one can join? I see 11:30 am – 1:00 pm for the presentation. What about: "Each meeting will feature ... an opportunity to see and share contemporary work made using vintage photographic printmaking techniques." Will this be a monthly lecture series, or an alt process group that sponsors presentations?

I will have to let some of my photo friends in the Monterey area know.
I would like to attend but like Greg in Vancouver, WA. Beaverton Oregon is not much closer.

Good Questions Philip,
Anyone can come to the monthly meetings. This group is really about getting people together with a common interest in alternative processes. A place to share new work, meet people, exchange techniques, networking, socialize with other artists

Each month we will be having a guest speaker who will be talking about a particular process and displaying some of their work. We won't be sponsoring any artists, as we have no budget. There will also be time for the people in attendance to show off a print or two. And time to mingle about...

To be honest... this group will be what the people who participate want to make it into. Beyond having a monthly speaker, there is really nothing set in stone.

Fair enough. If time permits I will drive down from SF, and maybe even bring a few prints.

I'll be giving a presentation at that meeting, both traditional Platinum/Palladium prints as well as Pt over color

Is this meeting still on for Oct. 27? What's the agenda and will there be time for sharing and discussion?

meeting is still on! have no idea of how many yet
agenda is pretty much as we make it.. I'll talk a bit about my work, process.. i'll have plenty of samples on hand.. but please.. if you're coming.. feel free to bring work yourself.

the idea is to get more involvement in the 'Historic' processes and to share ideas among attendees
