Dear All,

As you probably know ILFORD photo no longer manufacture motion picture film, but we do have approx 450 new motion picture film tins in stock, rather than send them for scrap I thought someone on APUG may know someone who could make real practical use of them.

They are round, the dimensions of each tin are 18cm x 40mm ( 7" x 1.75" ) enough to take about 500 feet of film.

Obviously we are looking for someone to take the whole lot as we cannot ship them out to lots of individual addresses, we would obviously prefer a photographic use, and preference would be given to any charitable, or photo heritage project that could use them.

Dependant on where in the World they would ship to, and for what purpose we would request a contribution toward the packing and shipping cost.

So if anybody wants them feel free to PM me :

Rats, I could actually use one. I have a movie trailer film that is currently stored in a plastic bag.

This sort of tin, with a smooth rim, makes a great altitude bearing for a Dobsonian design telescope (needs two per scope.) Just saying... :smile:

Simon,

You could offer them to the British Film Institute (BFI) , J. Paul Getty Film Conservation Center in Berkhamsted;

Tel: +44 (0)1442 876301

Most film archives (like the one I work for) can always use film cans or know some other deserving archive that can use them.

I toured the BFI Getty Center in 2000 when I presented our restoration of "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1931) and had a great time; nice people and interesting lab!

We could take them, but the shipping would outstrip any benefit of donation. Anyway, I'd think you'd want to support local archives if at all possible.

Just a thought...
