Hello,

I just started to mix the D76 at home. I am mixing it directly to the 1:1 concentration (using the water amount for the 1L but half portions of the chemicals.) I use it in a one week time after the mixing.

Is this approach OK or should I mix stock concentration first and then dilute it? Would that make any difference?

Thanks, Stefan

Mix the stock solution, and dilute later, diluted developer doesn`t keep well. And use all the chemicals.

It is not recommended to store D-76 diluted 1:1 for more than 24 hours so the developer should be mixed to a stock solution and then diluted just before it is used. You can download Kodak publication J-78 which is the technical information guide for D-76 from the Kodak website.

Are you mixing up the store bought stuff or mixing it yourself ? I mix stuff up myself right before use and do it diluted. Keeping time isn't an issue since the stuff gets used within at most 2 hours and usually less.

Beside the fact that diluted D-76 does not keep well, it is not a good idea to use part of a bag since the chemicals may not be evenly dispersed.

I am mixing it from the raw chemicals and I usually use it within the 24 hours after mixing.

- What would be the indication that the stored developer has broken?
- What would be the result if I develop the film with the old developer?

I am still talking about D76 mixed from raw chemicals to 1:1 dilution and used in 24-48 hours timeframe after mixing.

That big bottle is for all that sodium sulfite. Weren't for so
much of it an eight, maybe four, ouncer would do. How many
rolls of what will be going through that liter of stock? Dan
