Minolta Shutter Issue

Hi all,

So I took my new xe-5 out for a test shoot today and to my surprise when I pressed the shutter, sometimes it seemed to fire really slowly and other times at a normal speed. At least it sounds that way even at more or less the same shutter speed. I first set the shutter dial to auto and then set the aperture myself on the lens.I was shooting in relatively bright daylight conditions. When I noticed the shutter seemed to take a long time to open and close I read the viewfinder to see what it suggested then manually moved the shutter controller to that value but... the same happened. :-/ I wonder is the shutter kaput? I can see that I am able to move to the next frame. The numbers on the film are increasing. Maybe I will end up with some totally overexposed images.

When I got my Pentax MX it had some shutter lag. The 2nd part of the shutter wasn't travelling when it should on slower speeds. I think I kept the shutter open on B and cleaned the track it travels along and that improved it. After that I just kept working it and it eventually got back to normal.

The Minolta XE-5 and XE-7 cameras were outstanding cameras in their day but many now have failing electronics. Minolta had a history of going with the cheapest electronics component makers. The X-700 is also an excellent example.. Another example is the XG-series... It may work fine in manual mode but I would never trust auto mode.. This is why I broke ranks with Minolta with the exception of the srT-series...and then you need to do some maintenance on it to bring it up to a trustworthy state.. Thanks for the info. I am taking the XE-5 into the camera shop today because now I can't get the film out. Or I could but might destroy it.
I am not in a position now to give up on Minolta and maybe the XG (don't care about AF) is a good bet or the srT as you said. I am not good at tech stuff I might have to get someone else to do that but thanks for the help.

John Titterton recently fixed my XE-7 and did a fantastic job.
The contacts inside the camera were dirty, just needed a really good cleaning.
I'm pretty sure he works on the XE-5 it's part of that lineup.

John Titterton is also a seller on ebay. Although I have not bought an item from him yet, I have every reason to believe that they would be in good working order unless he states otherwise.
