Want to Buy minolta portrait lens (58, 85, or 100)

I'm looking for a portrait lens in the manual Minolta mount. I do have a vivitar 135mm Close focusing lens that would work for portraits but I don't always want to lug around a lens of that size.

So I'm looking for a 58mm 85mm or 100mm lens. I would prefer an 85mm lens since I have the 135.

The 58/1.4 would be my choice.

Of course everyone has their own motivations, mine are this: I prefer the standard lens for portraits, because I stay quite close to the person and that brings about something more intimate. Much easier to make real contact, instead of sitting on the other side of the room and clicking away . . . to me rather meaningless.

In addition, the standard lenses are small and not intimidating. That helps too.

Minolta's 58/1.4 is a beauty, almost half the size in weight and length compared to the f1.2 version.

I have a 90 mm f 2.5 Series one Vivitar with a Minolta mount that is an ideal portrait lens, fast and sharp, they have a very good reputation.

You could look at the Spiratone/Accura branded 85/1.7 if you don't need the Minolta name on it.

I have had a couple copies and liked it very much. Pretty easy to find the MD/MC adapter for the YS mount. Somewhat heavy as a fast 85mm will be but it is fairly small.

I am in the Nikon and Canon camp, but I have made many portraits I liked with the 58 and 55mm focal length. It is a great FL, which I've used more than the 85mm FL.

I too recommend the 58mm f/1.4 lens for portraits.
