The manual says:

Battery Check

Set the aperture ring to "AUTO" and frame a bright subject in the viewfinder. If the exposure-indicating needle remains in the red area at the bottom of the scale, battery is improperly installed or unserviceable.

That's the best they got for it. :smile:
 
Also, if the needle seems sluggish when you go from dark to light, it's time to change battery.

I used to check the meter against the meter app in my iPhone before starting shooting, to make sure I get the right exposures.

My experience is that the ZA batteries would die quite suddenly, so I never shot with weak batteries.
 
Once the little peel off sticker that keeps air from getting into the cell/activating it is removed, the life expectancy is a couple of months. Because of that, I chose to use the LR44's.

In use in my hearing aid, which is shut off about 12 hours a day, they only last about a week.
