Minolta Dynax 800si rubber grip repair

Repaired my Minolta 800si with leather. Removed old grip, built up base with plastic putty, carefully filed that down to correct level, glued on leather tucking it in at top and two sides and neatly trimming at bottom. Worked really well. Started leather by fitting neatly around eye start sensors and slowly worked in top and lens side, then outer side, and finally the base. Hope this may prove helpful to others.

Nice, might need to do something eventually with my 7 as well. I saw other people using Sugru to create a new rubbery surface.

Thanks, timing is right, I found a working 600si with the plastic missing on the right side, I thought about using plastic filler to build up the missing area but had had thought about using leather for top layer.

Interestingly the leather gives it a nicer feel than the original rubber.

Final touches were with fingernail to clean lines between plastic and Sugru.

This was my first time using the stuff and really like the way it looks, feels ever so slightly soft.

I got a bag of scrap leather material from Amazon.uk. Cost about €10 delivered. There are lots of suppliers if you search under "scrap leather material" on amazon.
There were three bits in black or dark grey, enough to do several cameras, and I have two 700si's and and an 800si to do unfortunately.
There were lots of other coloured bits in the bag if you fancied something doing a bit of bling on the camera.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Got the leather (real leather not leatherette) off of ebay. It's quite easy to find inexpensive off-cuts.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Glue was UHU but any regular contact adhesive / glue will do.

I assume you meant CONTACT adhesive, not COMPACT.
