Repaired my Minolta 800si with leather. Removed old grip, built up base with plastic putty, carefully filed that down to correct level, glued on leather tucking it in at top and two sides and neatly trimming at bottom. Worked really well. Started leather by fitting neatly around eye start sensors and slowly worked in top and lens side, then outer side, and finally the base. Hope this may prove helpful to others.

Nice, might need to do something eventually with my 7 as well. I saw other people using Sugru to create a new rubbery surface.

Thanks, timing is right, I found a working 600si with the plastic missing on the right side, I thought about using plastic filler to build up the missing area but had had thought about using leather for top layer.

Glad it was helpful. Thought of using sugru as well but was having difficulty getting it here in Scotland. 🙂

Interestingly the leather gives it a nicer feel than the original rubber. 🙂

I used Sugru on my 600si. The grip was toast so I removed it, taped it off and started molding using fingers, popsicle sticks, a dowel and anything else I could find.

Final touches were with fingernail to clean lines between plastic and Sugru.

This was my first time using the stuff and really like the way it looks, feels ever so slightly soft.

Looks fantastic! I think it is great that others who face the same problem will have a variety of choices to repair their camera. 📸🙂
