I'm having issues with my Minolta scanner. When I scan at 4800 dpi the photo is cropped, but when I scan at 3200 dpi everything is normal. I restarted the scanner and the computer twice. Does anyone have any solution for this?

I'm using Vuescan on windows 10. I have the original software, but I can't get it to work on Windows 10 so I'm using Vuescan.

I tried finding the answer on the Yahoo group, but it's closed now. Thank a lot Yahoo. Does anyone know if that information was archived or if the group moved elsewhere?

What setting are you using under the "Crop" Tab?

Did you try setting it to "Maximum"?
Can you show us the settings under that Tab?

I'm going to download the demo for silverfast to see if that makes a difference. That should at least tell me if it's a software issue or not.

I don't own Minolta Multi Pro, but AFAIK this is a 4800dpi scanner for 35mm ONLY. For MF it's 3200dpi.

What size are you scanning? If it's bigger than 35mm and you are forcing the 4800 resolution I think it's reasonable to expect a crop.

I think brbo may be correct. I had the previous model - the Scan Multi - and it had different maximum resolution numbers for 35mm and medium format films.
One other thing to check - what parameters do you have set under the "Output" tab?
Otherwise I would suggest sending a "Problem Report" to Mr. Hamrick (Vuescan).

At least per the instruction manual, this is not correct. The Multi Pro is specified to reach 4800 for all formats, and the software "scan setting" instructions explicitly list the 4800 setting as valid for medium format.

It seems I got this wrong because of Vuescan's menu options. I saw the option for 4800 for medium format so I thought that the scanner would give 4800 for 120. But it seems like this option should be disabled for 120 in the menu. I had to dig through the menu and found that 3200 is medium format and 4800 for 35mm.

The manual doesn't say those numbers are interpolated, though.

Major Update, 3/20/2002!
The sluggish performance of the Dimage Scan Multi Pro bothered us for quite a while, particularly as our numbers were so far at odds with Minolta's own specs for the unit. Part of the issue may have been that we were testing at the 4800 dpi maximum resolution, which on the Multi Pro involves interpolation up from the device's native 3200 dpi. - But that didn't seem likely to explain the enormously long scan times all by itself.

(source)

According to Minolta the Dimage Scan Multi PRO AF-5000 Slide & Film Scanner has a true optical resolution of 4800 dpi with 35mm film. It can also scan 35mm panorama shots in that resolution. For medium format film, the scanner lens 'zooms' out, the lens uses a two-step zoom dropping off to only 3200 pixels per inch.

Every review I've read on Minolta Multi Pro mentions 3200dpi as max for medium format.

I purchased a Multi Pro just before Christmas, about one week after Yahoo removed all the content including the conversations from the Yahoo Multi Pro group. This group was started in 2002 and there was a vast amount of shared collective knowledge there that has been viped out by Yahoo. Criminal ignorance.

Well, I use the latest version of the original Dimage Scan software (1.1.6) on an old Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.8. I mostly scan 6x7 at 3200ppi and the results are very good. When scanning 6x7 at 4800ppi (interpolated) the scan takes much longer time, but interestingly the scans may be better than when scanning at 3200ppi. Minolta implemented interpolation in a unique way with this scanner. I need to get more acquainted with the scanner more before I can say anything definitive about this.

The real resolution of the interpolated 4800 DPI on medium format has been discussed a bit on the net. Minolta says that interpolation is done in the "main scanning direction"‚ this sounds as though it might be a bit better than actual interpolation.

I might have to put together a machine that can run the original software. It seems that it can do some things that Vuescan can't. I tried to set up a dualboot on my computer, but the hardware is too new to run Windows XP due to the sata cables. Virtulal machines don't recognize Firewire so I might be able to get it to work with the SCSI connector.

I'm sad that Yahoo shutdown the group. I'm trying to join now so I can take all of the information there and put it in a open Facebook group I made for the scanner. Hopefully it can be helpful to some.
