Hi all,

I was testing out some different software with my KM5400 and I was interested to know who uses the Minolta software? Do you find it satisfactory or have you installed Vuescan, Silverfast or other alternatives.

I found that the Minolta software gave very good results. Natively I found the Vuescan a little on the warm side (I know this can be adjusted) and the Silverfast gave very good results, good native skintones but I noticed some "bronzing" in certain parts of the scan which the Minolta did not display.

I could probably improve my scanning technique too.

What are your thoughts?

I have a 5400 and used to use the Minolta software but now use VueScan. Comparing my old scans with the new, I can get much more detail out of the shadows with VueScan.

I have found that if I use VueScan with the built in colour profiles then yes it is a little warm. I have however invested in some calibration targets from http://www.targets.coloraid.de/ and used these with VueScan to produce new targets.

I also don't use the Minolta software as it doesn't really like Vista 64 bit.

As for Silverfast, I have used this with my Epson V700 and its a little sharper than VueScan. The downside for the Minolta is the price - Ouch! I won't pay to make the switch.

Thanks Robin,

I must say I did some comparisons last night and noticed a similar difference but I'm trying to get my head around the colour shifts. Perhaps I need to organize a profile, I have one installed for the Minolta software.
