I can’t accept that requirement because no meterless M42 exist with the lathe cut. So for me no SL. The SL would be my choice. Maybe.. I could swap out the mount.

I have both the Spotmatic F and the SL and I think you can't swap the mounts. The mount on the F has 4 screws on the front, the SL mount is completely flat so it is probably mounted from the backside. From that I guess the backsides of both mounts are also different.

Where is that other thread you mention in post #133 Bill?
Edit - Never mind, I already found it.

Yes, the SL's mount (in common with all but the earliest Spotmatic SP's) will be threaded - extremely tightly - into a retaining ring on the reverse side of the front standard. Even if you could readily swap the mounts you might end up with alignment problems so that kind of thing is best avoided. I suppose if you had access to a milling machine with rotary capability, and didn't mind butchering the mount, you could modify it to create the step in the Spotmatic F/ES mount. Or you could use off-brand lenses (like some of the Yashinon DS series) that don't have an auto/manual switch and so avoid the issue (assuming that, like Bill, you feel that there is an issue) altogether.

Here's a word, and a concept. MINDFULNESS.
Pay attention to the A-M slider. Set it, forget it.Don't play with it.
Problem solved. Stop whining, whining isn't minimal.

And on folding Retinas, pay attention to the X-M lever when shooting with electronic flash. If it's set wrong, you get clear film.
