Revival!

So I picked up a couple Nikon Ai-S wide angles, almost free, mint! 28mm f2.0, and a 35mm f1.4. These lenses are killer. I use the focus assist on Digi bodies, F5 and F6. This just wetted my appetite. So I picked up a 85mm f1.4, 105mm f 1.8, 135mm f2 and a 180mm f2.8 ED. Whew! Just when I thought I was cured!

These are 80's vintage manual focus top drawer pro lenses. Completely out of my reach in the day 😀

I used to be sold on the 24mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.8, the 50mm f/1.4 and the 105mm f/2.5 as my standard kit.

Then I discovered the 20mm f/2.8, the 35mm f/1.4, and the 85mm f/1.4 and these have become my carry weapons of choice film or digi. (Though I still own and use the other focal lengths.)

I also have a 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor-P which is shockingly sharp, so I can only imagine what the ED can do.

Modern zooms are way better than their older ancestors, but Nikon Ai or Ai-S primes are very much relevant to this day. When I see deals on them, I get them because they're never going to be made again and the new plastic AFs don't do it for me.

You will never be cured of GAS nor should you seek to be. You cannot be cured of having good taste.

The 24/2.0 and 20/2.8 are in your future...
And the 50/1.2 and the 15/3.5

That 20mm f/2.8 35mm f/1.4 is an astonishingly good lens. Here's something I shot with mine on very very very expired Tri-X and a Nikon F body tripod mounted a few weeks ago. Scan of silver print:

I got to stop hanging around here. I already have more cameras and lenses than I have dollar bills to buy them!

Stop feeding my GAS!

GAS is good! One must help stimulate the economy. It is time for you to pull your weight.

I am buried in photographic gear that I don't even use!

So you are in a wonderful place in life. You spend your career earning money to pay for things others needed or thought they needed. Now you can afford to get the things that you want and make you happier, so you should now take time to enjoy those things in life.

My point is that I no longer have the money.

Now you are in the happy position of having all or much of what you want instead of wishing for more. A nice place to be. Enjoy!

I didn't set out to buy two Canon SLRs in a week, but it happened anyway.

Just before Christmas day, I found a clean AE-1, purportedly CLA'd recently, at a good price, so I bought it (will be delivered tomorrow). I wanted something lighter than my Canon FT to take on hikes. Then today, I was coming back from the Shenandoah National Park and realizing I was going to pass by one of the few photography shops in the region, I made plans to stop there. I need a film leader retriever, so I thought I'd check and see if they had any. They didn't, but they did had a nice looking Canon New F-1 AE with a 50/1.8 and 28/2.0 for $250 on consignment. I've been interested in the New F-1 for a while, but not enough to pay the prices I've been seeing (typically $300+). At $250, film tested by the shop, and with lenses, I couldn't resist. So now I have an FT, New F-1, and an AE-1 on the way. 🙄

I suppose there are worse problems to have.

Chris

this was me recently haha. My buddy gave me a rebel 2000. Then I bought a Yashica Mat 124G, Canon F-1 Original, a few FD lenses, and now I’m looking for a Canon EOS-1V. I’m also gonna get the New F-1 at some point. Planning on saving up for the next year and grabbing a Hasselblad and a Leica M6 as well. Definitely have a problem but it’s a good one lol. Not to mention some of the new lenses that I want to get for my mirrorless camera.

Honestly you've got some good cameras and glass already. I'm a fan of FL/FD glass myself. I'd sit tight for awhile and spend some of that new camera money on film and development. I was, and am, happy with my FT and only bought the F-1 because it was so damn cheap and could share lenses with my FT.

Yeah I really do, probably need to chill on the buying lol. And focus more on the film and development like you said! And get out and shoot more.

Several weeks ago, it happened accidently that i wanted to buy one specific Contax SLR for my collection, already have some Contax SLRs since the early 90's...and ended up with four (!) SLRs, instead of one...because they've been so cheap, and excellent condition, even one (167mt) i had already two copies, but again...it was that cheap, that i couldn't say no...so i bought all 4 of them. G.A.S. happens sometimes... 😀
