Hello.

I have recently gotten into the Microscopy hobby, that is using microscopes.

I want to photograph my stuff. There are mobile phone adapters, to allow you to put your mobile phone directly and stably against the lens, but I have something better than that, I have a Cannon EOS Digital Rebel XTI 400D. I want to use that.

I see on Amazon there are adapters for telescopes, and compound microscopes many using 23.3 eye pieces, but I have a stereo microscope using 30mm eye pieces and that I am having trouble finding adapters for.

Here is an example

Does anyone else do this, anyone know what to do, or where to find this type of accessory but for 30mm eye pieces?

I used to do IT work for a medical lab, but ended up assisting with some of the instruments too. Typical microscope setup had a trinocular head, so the stereo eyepieces could used normally while a camera was attached. Typical camera used was not a DSLR, but rather, a small USB device offering live view, such as those sold by Amscope.

Yes, I am aware of the existence of those. However, in interest of saving money and getting good quality, I feel my Cannon 400D would be better. Certainly better camera than any usb eye piece camera I can afford.

"Celestron" does sell a lens mount for the cannon EOS-F models, like mine, and I did find a 30mm T adapter. At long last, so ill probably go with those.

It really depends on your microscope. Canon (and many others) made microscope adapters, but you'll need to check out your microscope manual to see if it is compatible. Most microscope adapters have a specific camera mount on one end, and an adjustable end on the other end to grip the microscope barrel -- and allow for an eye-piece.

Joe, all of the SLR microscope adapters I've seen (t-mount types and Nikon's, which I have) are for monocular scopes, tube diameter ~ 23 mm. The OP's question was about an adapter that will fit one tube of a stereo dissecting microscope. The museum lab that I use has a bunch of these beasties, eyepiece diameter ranges from ~ 28 mm to ~ 32 mm.

The part of my Nikon adapter that fits over the scope's tube (a) is slightly but not enough adjustable and (b) is removable. I've been thinking about having SKGrimes make a replacement that will fit over one of a dissecting scope's tubes.

I modified a T2 tube with three small screws to clamp over the eyepiece of the microscope at work.

This arrangement should work either with or without the microscopes eyepiece.

Results were quire reasonable (much better than my digital microscope)

There's actually no reason why you can't just use a tripod to hold your camera near the eyepiece & do afocal photography (just as the phone cameras would)
