Hello there,

As you know italian art mafia had been decided on clean up for Sistine Chapel Fresco. They did clean up the microbiological residue from the surface of fresco and it removed all the details and sistine chapel turned in to elementary school painting.

What do I mean , science tells the metal oxide paints in the fresco kills all the bactery and fungus. But in 500 years , all the paint exchanged with fungus and bactery due to time effect on paints and their gradual loss.

I could...

All things are impermanent. Especially my health and bank account! Just remember that, and let go of expectations. You'll be a lot happier, and suffer less.

Abstract
The present paper reports the results of a bacteriological and mycological monitoring carried out on the airborne microflora of the Sistine Chapel. The general aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the flow of visitors, as well seasonal effects, on the qualitative and quantitative variations of microorganisms. Two sampling campaigns were carried out in May and November 1997. A Surface Air System (SAS) sampler (active system) and a sedimentation based sampler (passive system), supported by an original plinth, were used. Temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide were detected. VITEK SYSTEMS jr. for Staphylococcus spp. and microscopic observation for microfungi were the identification methods. In spite of the conditioning and filtration air system, initial results with both samplers, show a positive correlation between the airborne microorganisms and presence and number of visitors. The SAS samples showed higher microbial load, for both bacteria and fungi, than the passive ones, but the epidemiological meaning of the differently collected data varies. The increase during visiting hours of human Staphylococcus spp. is stronger than the airborne bacterial load increase. The microfungi most frequently isolated were Cladosporium spp. and Penicillium spp. These preliminary data underline the significance of the survey for the protection of such a precious environment, and encourage the Authors to continue the ongoing monitoring.

I don't have any idea what any of this has to do with photography. Fresco is an utterly different technique and some of the mineral-based
pigments he used were inherently toxic to both fungi, containing arsenic and copper, and no doubt unhealthy to the assistants who ground them. These kinds of pigments are too coarse to be used in any inkjet system, and some are vastly too expensive, worth more per ounce
than gold dust. No wonder the Pope looted all of Germany to pay for his interior decor. And the impure nature of the pigments would probably prevent usage in most alt printing due to unwanted crosslinking effects to gelatin. I won't say too much here. My aunt was THE 20th century expert on teaching fresco technique, and has more murals protected by the Natl Historic Register than any other US artist. She left me her watercolor pigment sets, which were all handground and far more lightfast than anything you can find in an art store.
Her murals were done mainly with oxides, since rich mineral blues and green are utterly unaffodable for mural sized projects unless you
are a Renaissance Pope. These natural pigments are quite resistant to fungi and bacteria, but won't preclude the plaster from itself from
growing them, or from getting all smudged up with candle smoke and wax over the centuries.

Are the Italian Mafia often employed to clean up works of art?
