I went to a Michael Kenna talk, exhibit opening and book signing in Carmel last weekend (at the Center for Photographic Arts). It was thoroughly interesting, even exceeding the high expectations that I had for the event. His talk was scheduled for an hour, but he spoke for nearly an hour and a half, while making it seem much shorter. He shared stories behind several of his photos, along with some aspects of his thinking about photography. After a 50-year career, he has much to say, and it was a pleasure to hear his thoughts and anecdotes. Although he's had a global following for decades, he comes across as a very humble, down to earth individual, and a genuinely nice person.

His new book contains one photo from each year of his career, spanning 1973-2023, along with stories behind each photo. I highly recommend the book!

My girlfriend snapped a photo of me next to Michael after he signed the book for me.

I attended that event, also and concur completely.
A very inspiring presentation.
I enjoyed meeting him and having him sign my book, as well as my copy of "Night Walk".

He only does silver gelatin prints himself.

A few years ago, I met him at the Weston gallery and he signed like a dozen of my books. Very nice person!

It sounds like it was a great experience!
It's so nice when the person behind the wonderful work is wonderful too!

Wasn't it an inspiring talk?
I've long been a fan but after the talk I'm even more
I recorded the whole thing and eventually the video will make it to the CPA website.

I saw someone operating a video camera in the back of the room... that must have been you?! I was wondering about the video, and been meaning to contact CPA about it.

Thanks,
Dale

Hi Dale, I'm still editing it but hope to finish up this week! I'm not sure when CPA will post it but I think people will enjoy the talk.
