I went to a Michael Kenna talk, exhibit opening and book signing in Carmel last weekend (at the Center for Photographic Arts). It was thoroughly interesting, even exceeding the high expectations that I had for the event. His talk was scheduled for an hour, but he spoke for nearly an hour and a half, while making it seem much shorter. He shared stories behind several of his photos, along with some aspects of his thinking about photography. After a 50-year career, he has much to say, and it was a pleasure to hear his thoughts and anecdotes. Although he's had a global following for decades, he comes across as a very humble, down to earth individual, and a genuinely nice person.
His new book contains one photo from each year of his career, spanning 1973-2023, along with stories behind each photo. I highly recommend the book!
My girlfriend snapped a photo of me next to Michael after he signed the book for me.
I attended that event, also and concur completely.
A very inspiring presentation.
I enjoyed meeting him and having him sign my book, as well as my copy of "Night Walk".
Wasn't it an inspiring talk?
I've long been a fan but after the talk I'm even more
I recorded the whole thing and eventually the video will make it to the CPA website.

I saw someone operating a video camera in the back of the room... that must have been you?! I was wondering about the video, and been meaning to contact CPA about it.
