MF camera poll

The more I shoot MF the more I love it. Of all my cameras my favorite is my RB67. But...sometimes I would like to have a smaller set up so I go back to my Nikon FE 35mm.

From several other threads it seems that a Mamiya 6 or 7, maybe one of the Fuji RF MF bodies, Mamiya 645 Pro would all be something that would be easy to travel or hike with.

the poll question is what MF camera would you take on a hiking trip or strolling the streets of Europe going in and out of shops with your wife/husband??

I have the Mamiya 645 Pro TL, very nice camera, somewhat less cumbersome than the RB; I have never used the other four. If I were hiking or traveling I would far more likely want to take a Mamiya 6 or 7 and no more than three lenses.

If I am walking any distance I use a 2x3 Crown Graphic, 101mm Ektar and Graphic 23 roll holder.

I'd have thought about including the Bronica RF645 as well as or maybe in place of the Mamiya 645. I have it as well as the Fuji GSW 690 and I'd maybe hold the Bronnie to a slightly slower speed than the Texas Leica.

I have the Mamiya 6 and the pro. The latter has one con for hiking: if you use the WLF it's a pain to shoot in portrait format. With a prism it's no problem, but then the prism adds significant weight. The mamiya 6/6mf... nirvana. At a price. But I did take my pro on several trips and it all worked out, just couldn't work as quickly when I want vertical orientation.

I best MF camera I have backpacked with was the Pentax 6x7 I owned at the time. I used my bamboo hiking staff as a makeshift monopod. I still have the negatives. Very nice. MF in the Colorado Rockies at altitude ROCKS!

Actually, I've just added an Ercona II 6x9 folder to the mix, but that is heavier and consumes film faster.

Another vote for Rolleiflex! That smaller-than-a-breadbox in easy to pack away and it resists the packing of "extra" stuff (like lenses, extra film packs, etc).

My choice isn't listed either.

I got myself a Fuji GA645 specifically for easier carry and it fulfills this function very well.

I already had a Mamiyaflex C330, too heavy, just picked up an old Rolleiflex 3.5. Love it, nice, light and easy to use.

Fuji GA645Z. It is small, with a 55-90mm variable focus lens, and has automatic exposure and focus. I also own a Mamiya 7II outfit, and a Fuji GW690, but for hiking the GA645Zi has it all over these cameras. And everything else that has been mentioned, IMO.
