A while back I received two nice Metz flashes that were included with another purchase (50 AF-1 and 48 AF-1). The flashes have no Auto mode sensor and only are TTL with an Olympus Digital cameras.
The only way to use the flashes with other cameras is Manual mode.

Anyway, I'm setting up a large format project where I will need some flash power, so a couple slaves might be nice.

Turns out, with some internet searching, I discovered some updated firmware for my two flashes which will allow them to function as slaves.

Firmware was found here:

Also, note the ephemeral nature of the internet as the www.metzflash.ca site is already down since this capture last year.

I really don't like windoz operating system, but it is required for these updates (Mac updates were created, but the Wayback Machine did not save those that I could tell).

Of course the software did not work. The flash was not recognized by my computer because windoze could not verify the driver signature. (windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device code 52).
Windoze help claims the drivers are out of date and wants me to download newer ones from the manufacturer. Of course this is impossible as the Metz is out of business. To get the flash recognized by the Metz software I had to disable Driver Signature Enforcement in windoze as follows:

After that fiasco, the update of the flashes worked! Now they both can function as slaves.

Not surprising as after a 6 years struggle involving 2 insolvencies the Metz flash branch is gone under in 2021.
