I use a split metal washer, but you can also use o rings, and I have heard that a "nest" of copper foil works as well.

Aluminum foil works well also

I use some Kanto MR9 adapters, with Leica M5, Leicameter MR, Yashicamat 124G, Canon F-1n and FTb QL, Zeiss Ikon Icarex 35 STM, Canonet G-III QL17 and all work very good, in conjunction with 386 silver oxide batteries.

I've been using a wein cell in the M5, and I told DAG to leave it that way since he's servicing the camera now. I don't trust the alkalines because I've seen them drop incrementally over time so one can't really know when they are going off.

I have adapted batteries that are too small for whatever device - If you have a drill press, it's pretty easy. Get some aluminum rod stock of the appropriate size at the hardware store. Put it in the drill press. Using a hacksaw, or a file, or the like, simply cut off a piece that's the right size to make up the difference. I've done this for several devices and it works great.

I have just resurrected my old Canon EF and Canon F1 (from the mid-70s) which I haven't used for over 20 years. I'll be sending them for a CLA but the original specified batteries (Mercury PX 625 1.35V) are no longer available. Anyone know what can be substituted that will give accurate readings and function just like the old mercury batteries?

My apologies if this has been covered in an earlier thread but I couldn't find it. And yes, the EF along with the original F1 are in my opinion excellently constructed cameras. I stopped using them only because I switched to medium and large formats.

You can use 1.5 V alkalines in the EF with no problem as it has a built in voltage regulator. The F1 does not.
