The way I use the MG filters in my Opemus enlarger is I have a set of above the lens filters which I had to cut to the size of the filter draw, Master the art of the test strip, and remember that with the MG filters grades 00 to 3 1/2 use the same exposure and 4 to 5 increase the exposure by a stop, as far as the makes of MG filter, the widest available are made by Ilford, and you can get sets for above the lens in 2 sizes, get the smallest size and cut to the size of the filter draw, or get a set of below the lens MG filters, which are much more expensive, and fit in a holder mounted on the red filter spigot, I find the above the lens works fine for me.

I had a Opemus IIa for many years, and I used Ilford below the lens filters. This worked very well. As mentioned above, the Ilford website contains a lot of good information.

You may find these ones easier to use. They can be found for very little money and just need some small trimming to fit in the draw.I tried the under lens filter on my meopta 6 and found that it did not fit well.

n the Darkroom what I am doing is mixing up the chemical baths and getting them to 20C then I put the neg in the enlarger and shine it down on to my board so I can focus it ok. then I put the red safe light on in the room with the safe light filter over the enlarger. Then I line up a pace of cut paper to develop to then I set my Philips Enlarger Timer PDC1010 to the correct seconds then move the red safe filter out the way and insert grade 2 and do a test strip like you i have read on here and in books . I then develop it and hope something comes out
