Melbourne people - what did you get at Camberwell?

Just wondering how many of the Melbourne people went along to the Camberwell photo market a couple of weeks back and what they ended up taking home.

My major purchases were:
A battered but still functional Gitzo tripod for the Cambo 8x10,
A Jobo 3063 drum for future ULF experiments,
A Graflex style Grafmatic for my Auto-Graflex,
and a 4x5 Cambo SC.

That last one was a tough decision as the 8x10 I bought came with a 4x5 reducing back as well as a spare 4x5 standard and 4x5 bellows. Crucially this one has the graflok back so I can now get rid of my old Calumet 400. I might try turning the 4x5 reducing back into a 4x10 reducing back when I have some spare time.

The last couple of times I have ended up walking out with money in my pocket but have somehow ended up with just what I needed at the time.

how do you decide how much $$$ to take? I bought a Nikkor 24/2.8 there once but that wiped me out for any further purchases. Guess you could always duck up to the ATM!

Unfortunately, they run it on Bathurst, so I don't go to this one. Haven't been for awhile actually.

I always seem to miss this, too. Last time I went I read an ad for it in the Trading Post - must be about seven years ago.

I went but to be honest I didn't buy anything! I am still learning (at PSC) and starting out plus I cant' afford to buy new stuff so I just enjoyed looking at things. I did look for a loupe because I need one but the only one I found was $95 yeouch. I use Canon EOS and also that meant no ef lenses for sale.

Had a ball this time.

Peak enlarging focuser with BG (blue) filter, virtually brand new $150.00 over the moon with this purchase.

72mm Hoya red filter $15.00 good value.

52mm Nikon L37c filter $5.00 steal.

Nova twin 8x10 tank, brand new $20.00 Something to play with, will move it on for what I paid for it, shortly.

Paterson medium format contact frame, $15.00 for me.

Paterson 35mm contact frame, $15.00 for a friend.

Step ring for a friend, brand new $5.00

62mm Polariser for a friend, brand new $40.00

I was surprised this time as there appeared to be quite a reasonable amount of gear, from super small Minox, through to 8x10.

The 8x10 went real quick, I was the 12th person through the door and it was being sold when I walked in.

Of the two markets each year, the October is always better than the March one. Perhaps that's because the October event, was the original yearly market before they went bi-annual!

Last March, I picked up a colour enlarger with lens for $40.00, I was the 3rd person through the door then, I purchased it in the 1st minute.

By the way anyone in the Melbourne area with a colour enlarger 35mm or 6x6, I have a student looking for one.

As far as I know at least a couple of vendors from Sydney, and I think one from Adelaide. I bought my filters from a sydney fella.

Paul, do you know anyone with a cheap 4x5 camera, I'm sort of trying to get one, anything really but money is definitely an object.

I really hate being jostled all the time so I don't generally turn up until 9:00 - 9:30. I probably miss some things that I want but there is usually something to make me happy. As I was walking in this year I saw a guy with three process lenses on a board, but I didn't stop to ask what they were or how much he paid. Last time it was a 5x7 Graflex SLR that sold as I was walking toward the table. Again, I didn't ask how much.

I take about $400 with me, just in case I see something I really need. This year I wanted a tripod (and got it) and wanted 8x10 holders and there were none to be seen. I find that most of the lenses are too expensive compared to eBay (including shipping costs) but the other stuff tends to be cheap. I've bought four of the Graflex style grafmatics at Camberwell and paid around $25 each while one I have bought on eBay was closer to $60 - plus postage.

I try really hard not to collect cameras, so I focus on buying 'needful things' rather than things that take my fancy. Next time could be a little harder as I've managed to get most of what I need, but there is always lenscaps, film and paper.

Paul, the doors open at 0800 by 0900 - 0930 any bargains or much wanted stuff is normally gone.

I would suggest that you may wish to arrive slightly earlier, there really isn't any rush, but whatever you do, don't stand in front of me!! :-D

Yep, the early bird catches the worm & I was the early bird, being about 5th in the 8am queue but I didn't catch any worms this time. Last March I managed to get a full 10x8 box of the old Agfa Record Rapid fibre paper for a steal at $10, plus a few other odds and ends at a good price, like the deluxe-style 35mm slide case which opens both sides to fit more than I'll ever have the need for. Last week I bought some "Guilleminot" brand 16x20 graded paper called "eclair rapide" - unopened, the guy swears it's fibre paper but with a name like 'rapide' I tend to think it'd be RC (but why worry if it's only $10?) Does anyone have any information on this paper? I haven't had time to try it out yet, or even open it for inspection. So I didn't get much this year. But I truly believe it has had the largest number of older men with beards gathered under the one roof since the days of Federation when everyone had a beard!!!!!! ;-)

I've got an LPL 7700 just sitting in my garage. My missus wants me to do a cleanout, so if your student wants to have it, they can contact me on mwynd@gordontafe.edu.au. $50.00. It hasn't been used since my dad died, but it's in very good nick and comes with 50mm, 75mm and a 90mm.

LJH and me seem to have hit off in agreement Thurs/Fri speculating on spending maybe a weekend down at JamesR's cubby at Sandy Point. (See thread started by SteveR titled something about suggestions for getting his creative spark re-ignited, or somesuch...). Probably wouldn't suit you as no nearby coffee! You'd have to DIY (but if you're sweet and give me a camera to play with I'll bring my Nespresso and five vars of cawfie!) The idea would be to explore Wilsons Prom, weather conditions permitting. Maybe even the dunes of Big Drift or the bigger dunes facing Darby River and the beach. Evening light down there would be a treat, assuming good conditions... if not good conditions, forget it.
