Brett, are you north, south, east or west of the CBD?

This information may help some local people who may be willing to meet up with you and let you look and feel equipment.

Thanks for the reply Mick

I live in the south east down near bentleigh, I'd love to chance to check out some equipment for real and ask some questions.
I'm quickly realising i have quite a bit to learn but for me thats a big part of the fun in learning something new.

Brett, it's a small world, I live in an adjoining suburb to Bentleigh.

In fact I sometimes cycle to my brother's place, to visit him in Bentleigh.

Send me a pm, we'll converse offline.

Well, it's almost 12 months since this event.

Any thoughts on running another one?

Yeah, definitely now that I'm an LF user. We might have a general Melbourne APUG get-together combined with a LF show and tell session, probably fairly soon. Any other interest?

I'm in. Could be same place, same time Saturday 12th June?

On second thought, that time & date is a bit short notice - only 4 days away now and the venue hasn't been investigated.

How about Werribee Zoo as a meet-up venue?

I'd be happy anywhere 'round town, including the Peninsula or Pt Lonsdale areas.

Then again, meeting for a beer at a local pub one weeknight to talk some sh#t could also be easy!

if it's somewhere central in late July then I'm in - Werribee is a good hour plus drive for me!

I would have come, but I wasn't a APUG member last year....

I have a old and much loved 5X7 I can bring, plus my Graflex 6X17 SLR....

Okay, it sounds like we need at least a few weeks notice. I'm out for the week 4th to 11th July. Marc is out for the whole of July. Maybe it will be early August. I'm voting against the Gardens this time. Most of us shoot B&W (almost to the exclusion of colour) and last time at the Gardens it was a Melbourne pea-souper, so not conducive at all to mono. I like the idea of meeting in a pub, though, LJH. That sounds very civilised indeed. Maybe we will end up organising a couple of different events. This probably needs a new thread.

Come down to the Otways, Kev, where B&W is strictly illegal and Velvia rules! :D :D Wyno did some quite attractive mono shots on that day in the Gardens. And me? The Gardens Botanical looked quite attractive on Provia 100F in pinhole — up until the cable release self-destructed. ...

Actually, I'd try and come along as I want to have a look at a Wista (that means yours, Marc! :D) up close and really personal. Currently eyeballing a Sinar 5x4. A lot of little things to be done, to be re-learnt here, before I jump on the gravy train...

Please explain: how would you set up an LF system (or systems, plural) in a watering hole? Drinking then driving an LF kit sounds positively hazardous!

I'm interested in some of these Otways adventures but nothing which involves sliding down hills, etc. Sorry to hear about your cable release. I just bought three from a company in Germany which Marc recommended.

You're also welcome to check out my Wista.

Setting up LFs in a pub could be problematic, I agree, but we can talk sh*t and look at stuff.

I'll be down the Otways this weekend; with others, though.

I will be sneaking the Shen's in, along with some nice, fresh Velvia and maybe some of my last Pan F.

Can we look to having a beer/intro session to thrash the details out? Can you run a poll on APUG like you can on Large Format Forum? Perhaps a new Thread with a poll of the day that suits the most would work?

No Kev, no "sliding down hills", but lots of low-light, intellectually-challenging stuff — rain, too (of course, of course...). Expect exposures of several minutes, down there. At the mo', I'm garnering feedback on likely interest and some dates to throw around (see the Great Otways Rainforests & Waterfalls thread).

You bet I turned the air blue there and then in the Rotunda that day!
I picked up on Marc's terrific Gebr. Schreck cable releases, having bought a pink one (the active one) and a spare black one — I doubt I'll ever need the spare, both being so utterly well built like a Panzer tank!! Best CRs I've seen in decades.

"Look at stuff"!? Stand aside sir! I'm here to run my fingers over objects of beauty! :D

There are two things here, a show and tell, or look and see.

Then there is the possibility of an outing.

I would suggest a show and tell needs a bit of a think regarding place, with a plan B for inclement weather.

As far as a photographic excursion goes, yep, anything except the city.

Anywhere we go will be difficult for someone, some people live west, some north etcetera.

We need to choose an area that is conducive to general view camera usage, meaning friendly for tripods. Remembering of course that plenty of people don't have view cameras, but they may wish to make usage of their tripod relatively easily.

I'll give you a couple of places that I and the missus will be visiting over winter and into early spring for photography. We generally go on a Saturday, this allows one to stay until sunset, without incurring a hard time trying to get to work the next day.

Kilcunda, fabulous rock formations accessible within a 5 minute walk to the beach, hours of fun. If the surf is up, the waves breaking over the rocks with the tide near in can be spectacular. The car park is on the Western side about 100-200 metres outside the main drag of the town, so to speak.

Brisbane Ranges, with the possibility of visiting Steiglitz which is actually in the park.

Queenscliff, there is an historic railway station, but better still there are loads of interesting steam trains and carriages. You can just walk around taking pictures pretty much to your hearts content.

I have quite a few other places, but I wouldn't wish to hog it. These places give southern, western and south western points from Melbourne that take about 1½ hours to 2½ hours from general suburbia.

Early August would give good notice for both items and appears to be suitable for most who have responded.

I would love another APUG meet up. But with more of a emphasis on photography. You guys have a lot of knowledge I would like to put into practice. It's one thing to read a book, & another to make happen.

Meeting up with a planned direction & emphasis could enhance all our talents & make for some excellent pictures.

Queens cliff railway station is a good spot & later on we could all chat & party at a local restaurant for a good feed.

I've just bought a Toyo 45A and a couple of lenses and I've had a Zero Image 4x5 pinhole for a while. Would love to catch up and compare notes, tips, advice & recommendations...

I will also be opening a studio/gallery in South Gippsland in the near future. There may be opportunities for exhibitions and classes (early days yet)...

No, it happened last year when this thread was started and the first show-and-tell was held.

Early August is looking good this year.

Mick: Kilcunda sounds photographically enticing. What would we do if the weather is bad?
