I've just got back on to this thread and note with interest the discussion on E6 developing options. My journey with developing E6 is no different to most, first Vanbar then Michaels. I can still make it to Vanbar by tram (before they moved I could walk to them) but I've found it takes a quarter of the time to get to Michaels by bus. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of Michaels E6 work and the price is not so bad. They also run Thursday lunchtime workshops which I chanced on when pricing some film a few weeks ago. I sat in on a talk by Michael Coyne, very interesting, especially when he admitted he still uses film for most of his work and Fuji were sponsoring the workshop.

As Lachlan has said, I am a recent convert to LF and just quietly I have quickly become obsessed with the whole slow photography thing. The trip to Noojee was only the second time I had taken my recently acquired Tecknika III out for a stroll. I only took two shots using Kodak E100G which I like a lot, and now it is off the market which is just crap news.


Below is the second of my two shots at a very low resolution. 1 scecond @ f22, no pol filter.

Nice to meet you Brian at Noojee. I reckon Mansfield would be the ideal place for a group excursion, lovely countryside and the town has a bit to offer as well.

I concur with Colin that Mansfield is a very worthy choice for a group outing, maybe even a weekend or long weekend outing if that was at all feasible. Places like Howqua, Jamieson, Sheepyard Flat, Woods Point ... a host of other little places and the rolling hills toward Tolmie all have great photographic potential, as long-time Mansfield pro Richard White will attest. He's done very well dedicating his mono LF work to the rich and varied landscape of the Mansfield and greater NE district.

Hello,

Really good pictures and the stories behind them, which I enjoyed. I have had my rolls developed but don't have yet a way to scan them to share.

Being new to Melbourne, I also find interesting and useful the discussion on developing options.

Perhaps a beach trip in mid/late May or early June is in order? Cape Woolamai, Cape Shank, Sorrento back beach?

Sun will be lower in the sky, so some good B&W clouds could be had?

Just a thought...

Arghhh, actually that should have been 4 seconds, which is probably obvious anyway because it is mich brighter than the other shots posted on here.

I second Cape Schank, went there as a child and it seemed like the world's roughest ocean pounded that rugged coastline.

Interesting. Cape Schank has, among its little gems, Pulpit Rock, an offshore peak that is part of a submarine ridge. But picturing it with the menacing surf making a beeline for your spot on the rocks is the hard part. Would be interesting to get a suitable low tide and sunset pic, but like all things, that depends on the moon and the stars aligning. Bit of a walk from the surf club carpark to Cape Woolamai but more than made up for with dramatic ancient granite tors and beautiful rounded boulders, but it too is a risky place to perch with even calm days producing unpredictable waves and washes over the rocks. I'd go to either with my usual enthusiasm!

June the 24th 2012, Tidal information for Melbourne.

Sunrise 0737 hrs

Sunset 1709 hrs

Low tide at 1150hrs.

Extrapolating the difference for the tide at Cape Schank doesn't matter, the water level will be reasonably low if we are there on that Sunday.

The only other Sunday in June with a close low tide to high noon, is on the earlier long weekend.

Stayed in one of the cottages (closest to water) at Cape Shank and would do again in a heartbeat. Lighthouse tour was interesting but the what I remember was the the non stop sound of the wind and waves battering the coastline. Absolutely spectacular. Taking over one of the larger cottages would make a great weekend !

That and a visit to Montalto Winery

I've stayed in the cottages in September and can only say that I'm glad the stone walls are four feet thick! It can blow hard there...

It's never too soon to take pictures...

BTW: I am very happy with my results from Noogee. Will bring some 6x7 slides to the next meeting.

I might add that there were a few people from northern Victoria at Noojee (I think), so maybe the one after this one, we go inland in a northerly direction?

Yeah it can blow something terrible down there, when we went to Kilcunda we stayed in the caravan park, the pop-top Mercedes camper van beside us had to lower his pop-top for fear of ripping the canvas, we even put one of the legs down on the camper to stop it rocking, yet the next morning, a gentle zephyr was wafting across the beach at sunrise.

Just checked the back of my E's-E-2-C calendar for May.

The 27th of May has a low tide at 0924hrs at the Port Phillip Heads, High tide is at 1620hrs; looking good!

There are some great spots to the North, as long as everyone isn't die-hard rain forest and waterfall fans! Around Maldon could be fun, or The Valley Of A Thousand Hills near Flowerdale.
