I didnt even get the chance. Acros was gone before the announcement of its discontinuation was even confirmed.

I'm not sure about the situation in the US, but here in the UK there's still loads of medium format Acros for sale. I considered stocking up when I saw it was discontinued. However, as I can't tell the difference between Acros, FP4, Delta 100 or T-Max 100 in my final prints, there seems little point...particularly as it's significantly more expensive in 120 format than those other films (FP4 £21.50, Delta £22.25, T-Max £25.00, Acros £28.33 for 5 rolls inc. postage from my usual supplier).

there's still film ... and short date i am sure

I have never shoot any 2nd tier films and have no interest in them. My reference point above was regarding only the top tier film producers (Kodak, Ilford, Fuji). That was not clear from my post.

That's weird. Must be taxes that make up that extra cost. I pay zero sales taxes on all film.

not too far off .. you mentioned in the thread they were getting rid of the acros line soon
its surprising you didn't stock up. if i knew they were going to axe my favorite film
even if i knew i would have to ship it across the pacific back to the states,
i'd have bought as much as i could.

Many photographers are capable of powerful work with other media. Most photographers committed to digital long ago. I often shoot film just for the fun of it and I actually enjoy scanning and inkjet printing...like most serious B&W photographers in this era.

Actually, it's using past experiences to guide future actions. If every other film that I witnessed get discontinued go out of stock immediately upon the appearance of a rumor of its demise, I would have acted far differently.

....but you are forgetting, or maybe do not remember that when those films got "discontinued" there were "out of stock" conditions and then the film would be in stock and so on...it is early...we may yet see the film in stock again. Apparently it is still available in Europe (?)

There are people who will buy it on speculation (because of threads like this and the other one here) and then sell it at great profits years from now. Witness the jack ass selling three bricks of well expired Verichrome Pan at a ridiculous price.

Separately...you are suffering grief over a loss. You sound just the same as a devoted husband who discovered his wife of thirty years has been cheating on him. You are grieving, you feel betrayed, you are entertaining irrational thoughts...You might benefit from learning about the psychology of loss and grief. Maybe even get some therapy / counseling.

Well, after I wrote my first comment in yours thread, the 13 Friday hit me. It looks like Ilford is going to impose price increase on film and paper to the level I marked as cut off price level to stop using film as my main creative media.

That's what I'm struggling with. I tried shooting medium format full time for a while but it became prohibitively expensive when using a lab to develop and scan, and that was pre price rises. Spending £60 on film and dev/scan costs only to have 2-3 images you like come back is soul destroying.

I like film and will continue to shoot it as long as it's available, but only every now and again as a treat. I'll probably be thinning the heard of film cameras in the mean time.

Why? If you've never used it, how do you know it isn't for you?

Would you lump Rollei in there too? Have you seen results from the Retro 80s film? You may be surprised if not.

Lastly, my advice would be for you to sell off your stuff, apart from the TX1 and get yourself another GSW690 with the proceeds since that seems to be your favorite. Then you'll have significantly less tied up in gear, less decisions to make when you go to use a camera for whatever purpose.

I've never driven a pick up truck before, but I'm pretty sure it's not for me. I'm happy others can enjoy non tier 1 films. I'm not interested.

It's time to get a developing tank, a changing bag & chemicals. Home processing is fun and you can use the savings to purchase more rolls No more soul destroying.

@RattyMouse Before you get too down about losing Acros, I'd first give Delta 100 a test and see how you like it (assuming you haven't already). I realise you have a strong aversion to T-Max 100 after the disaster you had with T-Max 400, but as far as I'm aware, the Kodak film is quite close in look to Acros - at least closer than the Ilford offering. Did the backing paper issue ever affect the 100 speed T-Max?

I absolutely love T-Max 400 in my Xpan - it's incredibly fine grained and just seems to work really well with those Fuji lenses with their high contrast coatings. I haven't tried T-Max 100 in it as yet, as I like having the extra couple of stops with those relatively slow Xpan lenses, but maybe that should be on your list? T-Max 100 in the Xpan - no backing paper issues to worry about. Then if you like it, explore how you feel about the roll film version.

Personally, I think you'd regret selling your high quality film gear. Prices seem to climb every week, and you could find yourself paying over the odds next year to buy back the gear you sold.

they might be worth looking into because they are great, have a fantastic look and
the price is right.
not sure why you say they are 2nd tier, they have been around for a long long time
( adox since the 1860, foma 1921 ) they just haven't been marketed in the states until

there was probably a giant glut in china with the ektacrhorme maybe no one shoots it, so it lasted.
but i get that you didn't expect it to be sold out so quick.

If I was p1ssed off with both Kodak and Fuji, I'd have switched to Ilford a long time ago. Though I guess you can absolutely love a film but hate the company who makes it.
