Ok...here's the latest....
I got the 9xi from Chan Tran in the mail today. Wow! What an amazing camera. It looks and feels great. It has a very robust high quality feel to it with ergonomics that are spot on. And to top it off Chan Tran included two cards - the Customized Function card that I wanted badly and the Portrait card.
Can you believe this guy!? Amazingly generous. I'm so grateful.

The picture you posted appears to have the battery grip already attached .That would be the BP-9XI? There isn't one listed on eBay. Hard to find? Expensive? 2CR5 batteries are around $9 on Amazon. Do the batteries drain that rapidly?

Apart from the extra height , I can see the turn grip to screw it to the body .
The battery tray should slide out from the end opposite the cameras grip , or else it has a cover that clips to the top like some later grips , meaning you have to take the battery pack off to replace the batteries .
Good news about the CF card , enjoy your new camera .
30 rolls is not a whole lot because I do shoot a lot of blank that is without film. I know I have a 2CR5 battery somewhere but I couldn't find it.
The cost of AA has really gone up past few years, so 4 AA is not that much less than a 2CR5, I guess if buy online I can cut my price. The motor winder for the Minolta 9000 uses 12 AA, + 2 for the body, last time I used it I bought standard carbon zink I got at a dollar store.
And if you fit the CG-1000 to it with a flash on top and one on the hotshoe for fill in flash , you need even more batteries 6+4+4 , your now up to 28 batteries !!!
Don't forget your spare set !
I always use Sanyo Enloops in my gear ( rechargeable batteries) they work well .
I've had them 10+ years and there still going strong.
I think they've long since paid for themselves and are running free now !
Although I don't have 28 if them to run the lot....
If you want to lighten your load on your 9000AF , instead of the MD-90 motordrive fitted , get an AW-90 auto winder .
It only takes 4 AA's , less fps and no shutter release on the grip , which u don't find as a great loss .
YMMV
You have a battery yet? I really want to see if it works for you.
Here is a bit of info : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minolta_9xi
Scroll down near the bottom it says :
- Focusing screen Changeable at an authorized Minolta service facility; type L (matte field with grid) or type S (matte field with vertical-horizontal scales)
The 28-85mm may suit me just fine but I may want a bit more focal length. I just don’t want a lot of weight hanging off the front of the camera. I could see getting a 200mm though.
There are plenty of 28-100mm/135mm/200mm/210mm -- even 28-300mm -- to chose from. My all-in-one is a 24-200mm.
The longer the range, the longer and heavier the lens. Same goes for the maximum aperture -- and the price tag follows close behind.

Ok. Thanks. I wanted to get at the black specks that I see in the viewfinder. Wasn’t sure if there was a easy way to clean that up.
I did a quick Google, and it appears that their is an LCD overlay on top of the focus screen ... which may be why the manual says it has to be done at a service facility. The Maxxum 200 is a great small lens, I got one for sale if you ever find a battery !!!
Battery coming on Monday!
Step 1 ... get a camera ... Step 2 ... get battery to power camera ... Step 3 ... get film.
What step is the lens?
