I bought a matte box that the seller said came off of an 80mm MAMIYA tlr but it doesn't fit. It does fit my 135 mm but I don't know if it is too deep at 90mm.

Lock the shutter open and widest aperture. Look through the back from each corner and look for the edges of the matte box.

Dan,thank you. I did what you suggested and see no edges straight on.however if I move it to about a 40 degree sideways angle I see side edges of the matte box

Think like a piece of film in the far corners. If you can see the matte box, light will be reduced in the corners. Vignetting. Depending on how you shoot, stop down the lens and see if it disappears after a certain aperture. Also check at close and far focus distances as this can effect the relation between the matte box and the corners of the film.

All of this is somewhat rough. I would do a test roll before any real shooting. Do different apertures and different focus settings.

Dan,thanks again. I checked at all apertures.the box is only visible at extreme angles so it appears that it will work however I am taking your advice and running. a test roll
