Anyone familiar with Matt Black? His works were mentioned in the September issue of Black + White Photography. Of course with a link, Dead Link Removed. The little news item got me interested, so I visited his website. High contrast black and white images. Very nice! While browsing the site I wondered "What is it I am seeing here?". Grainy analog images or digital noise. I'm afraid it is the last, digital added noise. What do think?

Yes, I've followed his work for a several years now, although I can't remember how I first came across him. If you're interested, he was interviewed by Paul Giguere on the Thoughts on Photography podcast in 2011. I really enjoyed it -- Matt's a very interesting person.

Thank you for shining a light on this photographer. I've spent a good part of my morning going through his work online and reading a few interviews. In most of them the subject of film crops up, but is never discussed on a really technical level. He does confirm here that he shoots on film http://www.alexiafoundation.org/blog/2012/10/09/interview-with-matt-black/

He may have gone digital since, however, but somehow, I doubt it (looks like he is beyond fretting over technical things).

I'm sure I have seen his work before, but it was good to look through some of it again. Really impressive. Gotta be tough to make a living portraying poverty and despair. Not many people want to buy that!
