I've been shooting a lot of fully manual or semi auto cameras lately, and for backlit subjects I've been metering for the shadows or putting in a stop of exposure compensation which usually works well

For Matrix/Evaluative metered cameras (Canon EOS 300x in this case), do you still need to dial in some exposure compensation ? Or does the metering take care of it for you ? Hybrid workflow so I'll be working on neg scans in Lightroom.
