I am intrigued by Masao Yamamoto's display method for prints. Dead Link Removed It looks like the prints float away from the wall and have no frame or overmat. Does anyone know how this effect is acheived?

I don't know specifically about Yamamoto, but I have a friend who mounts her prints on gatorboard with no borders or mat. She then puts the gatorboard on a smaller uh, box, that's about an inch deep. It holds the mounted print away from the wall so that it looks like Yamamoto's. She does inkjet prints and coats them with something that prevents damage to the print. I don't know if something like this is practical with a silver print.

we did something similar for a few pieces at a student show.

the photos were mounted on foarmcore, then form core was glued to a small piece of 1x2 which held the bracket for the hanger.

Doesn't the foamcore release some gas and ruin the prints over time if the prints are glued to the surface?

I had the pleasure of meeting Masao Yamamoto's a few weeks back, he has an installation at Hackleberry Gallery at the moment and recommend anyone in the London area to go see it as some of his images are stunning. (http://www.hackelbury.co.uk/artists/yamamoto/installations.html)

I believe he uses a foam core to present his photographs at these installations.

There is archival foamcore...I have bought it from Light Impressions before. I mounted Cibachrome directly on foam core over twenty years ago with no discernible deleterious effect.

I see. Good to know. Thanks.

Perhaps I should tell the guy at the frame shop that I go to.

we did use archival foamcore.

As far as mounting to the foamcore, do you just tack tissue to the back of the print, trim it and then stick the whole sandwhich into the press?
