So, I just won this Marvel made only for Sears 4x5 view camera that looks remarkably like a B&J. Anyone know who made this thing for Sears? Anyone ever used one? Is it an okay user?

Thanks,
Dan

Forgot about Ansco. It's the gray paint that made me think B&J. I'm guessing its from the 40s, and about the only one I'm sure didn't make it is Eastman Kodak (or it would have their name on it).

As far as being a user, it looks like it has a reasonable array of movements available. Also looks like it has a Graflok back, which I would consider a real plus.

Movements are similar to a B&J and better than my 2-D. As long as it'll lock down reasonably securely. The graflok was a later addition - this is actually a 5x7 with a reducing back.

Almost won one myself!

I bid on a Sears Marvel several years ago but it was not painted- just a natural wood finish. I believe that that particular camera was from the early sixties. Sears often rebranded fine camera equipment as well as telescopes and binoculars. The Sears store in Hollywood (now closed) once had a very impressive camera department that also sold darkroom equipment and chems. You can be sure that the Marvel you bought will be of excellent quality. Of course, the first thing I would check is the bellows and make sure they are in good shape. Otherwise that camera will last longer than any of us.
